So I did as instructed. He went from a security guard in Caracas to Mexico, Japan, MLB and now 5/$46 (with an opt-out). I'm guessing Caracas security guard is one of the few professions with a shorter career expectancy than relief pitcher. Seems odd for the Padres to commit 5 years and $46 to a 32-yo reliever but it's not my money. (Note, he was already in good financial shape -- whatever money he made in Japan plus he got $6 M from the Padres last year with a $5 M player option for this year.)

AJ Preller is a really smart individual. I wonder what he sees that I don't?

Robert Suarez seems like a decent enough bet to be a good reliever for the next year....maybe even two. Hardly any relievers are good bets 3 years out, particularly when they have only 1 MLB season under their belt.

SD is doing some weird stuff these days. But, If Suarez is this much, maybe they'll actually offer a deal Soto will take. But, my bet is Soto signs with a team that isn't saddled with weird contracts for relievers.....or the Dodgers perhaps.
