Padres’ Tommy Pham in ‘good condition’ after stabbing in San Diego

Padres outfielder Tommy Pham was recovering and in “good condition” after being stabbed during an altercation Sunday night in San Diego.

Both Pham and the Padres confirmed the news to the San Diego Union-Tribune. Citing two people who talked to the veteran big leaguer, the newspaper reported Monday that Pham left an establishment, saw two people whom he didn’t know arguing near his car and eventually asked them to move.

Pham then was stabbed in the lower back, the newspaper reported. No major organs were hit, and stitches were needed to sew up the wound.

The San Diego Police Department told the newspaper that the stabbing occurred shortly after 10:30 p.m. PT outside the Pacers Showgirls International gentlemen’s club. Police are still investigating the incident and the attackers remain at large.

That's pretty scary. I remember Paul Pierce getting stabbed early in his career. Glad he seems to be doing OK.

The scene I flashed back to was former UFC Light Heavyweight Ryan Jimmo -- best known for starching Anthony Perosh with one punch in 7 seconds in Jimmo's UFC debut, then celebrating by doing The Robot and a split. Jimmo got into a verbal altercation in the parking lot of a bar in Edmonton and the other party responded by running Jimmo over from behind and leaving him for dead.

A real shame. I also found this video I hadn't seen before of an engaging and thoughtful Jimmo speaking with media after the fight. Last question: "What are your thoughts about going into the record book with tying the fastest knockout?" "I'm going to try to forget it as quickly as possible so I can not let it cloud how much I need to improve."
