They had different views from different parts of the stands, the most puzzling one being looking over some customers' shoulders while in line at a concession booth that faced in (not towards the field) so you just saw the nasty lighting and greasy machines.
It was not very entertaining or enlightening.
(Yeah yeah. "Get off my lawn," etc etc)
Never apologize for being correct about something.
We call that being a Braves fan.
I'm all for that.
Now back in the day, 2.5 hours of Arne Harris hat and halter shots might have held my attention. (You have to be a WGN Cubs nerd to get that one.)
including a Little League player announcing the lineups
Just one of them? Why not 20 LLers introducing the lineups one at a time?
Anyway, on with the show!
I knew a network had done this for an NFL game, but didn't think it was way back in 1980 - Dolphins-Jets meaningless finale.
"To replace the announcers, the network used more on-screen graphics than usual and asked the public address announcer at Miami's Orange Bowl to impart more information than he typically did. Efforts to use more sensitive microphones and pick up more sound from the field, however, did not succeed. While the experiment did increase the telecast's ratings, it was widely regarded as a failure since it did not provide sufficient context for viewers."
He ain't what he used to be, but his June slash line is .357/.478/.554 - so I don't think he's done. And the Royals gave them Santana AND $4+ million. So, not a ton of risk unless you were attached either of the two pitchers they sent back.
