Peter O’Brien to play right field for Marlins

This is an odd shuffle.

Peter O’Brien impressed as a September callup in 2018, playing mostly first base while belting four home runs with 10 RBIs in 66 at-bats.

Speculation has been that O’Brien will compete for the starting first-base job. The plan is actually to give him a shot in right field.

Because of his power potential, the Marlins are trying to find the best fit for O’Brien. And with Brian Anderson moving to third base, that frees up right field.

The front-runners at first base are the left-handed-hitting Neil Walker sharing time with the right-handed-hitting Martin Prado.

The Marlins already have stated that Anderson is their third baseman, even if Prado is healthy. So Prado will move around and play some first base and still be available, if needed, at third.

Apparently this isn't a joke? Saw him play quite a bit the 2nd half of 2017 and first half of 2018 in Tulsa, and he looked cooked. He was almost passable at 1st, but terrible in LF. When he made contact he hit the ball a long way, but he was constantly swinging and missing, especially on breaking balls.

Apparently this isn't a joke?

Has Jeter ever shown evidence of a sense of humor? Anyway, checking the stats he was pretty terrible at Tulsa (which is just AA) with a 40% K-rate. But since landing in the Marlins org mid-2018, he's managed to keep it around 30% (AA, AAA and briefly MLB). They were a nice 74 PA at the end of last year though the 341 BABIP helped ... but then the 14% HR/FB seems sustainable.

That said, his ZiPS projection is ... and this is kinda hard to believe ... 193/266/390 for -1 WAR. It considers him roughly the 37th best position player for the Marlins, several spots behind Scott van Slyke, a few spots behind Magneuris Sierra (good pick up there Jeets!).
