Phillies name Gabe Kapler manager | MLB.com

Kapler was named the 54th manager in franchise history on Monday afternoon, after returning to Philadelphia on Friday for a second round of interviews. He impressed, cementing his status at the time as the favorite for the job. Triple-A Lehigh Valley manager Dusty Wathan and former Red Sox manager John Farrell also had second interviews late last week. An introductory news conference will be held later this week, following the conclusion of the World Series.

Good for Gabe the Babe as my friends wife called him. Really easy guy to root for in his playing days. If he’s still ripped like he was in his playing days the Phils better show up for camp ready to go.

If Brad Ausmus gets another managerial job he'll have some solid competition in the best-looking manager contest.

Welcome back

To that same old place that we laughed about.

whoop, whoop, whoop, that's the "showing your age alert" going off loudly. Unless you caught this in syndication? Unfortunately I am old enough to remember seeing this as it aired originally...

edited for clarity...

If you want to be your strongest, get some sun on your boys. And by boys, I mean your testicles
I’ll spare you the step by step. Coconut oil is the world’s greatest lubricant. I can’t help where your mind goes with this. Once the ball leaves the bat, I can’t steer it.
I can honestly say I enjoyed eating the softer, edible bones of the chicken that I just now devoured more than the meat. I inhaled some of the harder portions as well; if I could grind it up in my teeth, it was going down.
When I ran over the squirrel, I didn’t feel any [guilt]. Don’t get me wrong; I didn’t take any pleasure in it. I simply didn’t really feel anything

Gabe's blog is good stuff. He also wrote a very good PED take a few years back.

IIRC, one or both of Kapler's parents were theater teachers, and he grew up backstage as much as on ballfields. Not sure what that has to do with anything, but yet another distinctive feature – he is not going to be your standard-issue manager.

As if the annual softball game didn't already make this clear.

I now want the Phillies to sign Bartolo Colon.

Yikes! Kapler pretty clearly has an unhealthy obsession with muscle and working out, and quite possibly an eating disorder as well.

I think he'd agree with you, though from his own writing it sounds like he's gotten a lot healthier.
