HOW MANY PITCHERS WILL PITCH FOR THE JAYS TODAY?

moved from the Phillies thread, where there was a Robinson Cano comment:

Cano started 10 of the first 11 games this year, then got hurt and missed 10 days.

he has started nearly every game in 2020, outside the latter stretch. he complains about DHing mostly - but he keeps raking.

1.058 OPS and 190 OPS+ (in 95 PA)

his career-best is 148. he had an .880 OPS in the second half of last season - compare that to his career figure of a robust .845.

let the speculation begin!

Not a bad start to today's game, 6-0 Cardinals in the first.

let the speculation begin!

Assuming you are talking about his hof chances, I think they are pretty decent. Speculation about a 26 game stretch of his career, which I'm sure is no different from multiple 30 game stretches he's had in multiple years of his career, would seem to be a weird way to speculate about anything.

Cardinals now up 8-0 with one out in the 2nd inning and man on.

Yankees D.J. LeMahieu leads off the bottom of 1st with a HR, raising his league-leading batting average to a gaudy .404.

geez i thought miller'r homer was a popup when it came off the bat. very awkward swing on a ball that went over the fence.

turning into a laugher.

Red Sox down 2-0 already. These battlers from Beantown are working very hard to maintain that lofty team ERA of 6.00+
   9. The Yankee Clapper Posted: September 01, 2020 at 07:58 PM (#5973749)
Another HR by LeMahieu, making it 2-0 Yankees over Rays, and raising his league-leading batting average to a spiffy .411.

The Yankees' last win over a team other than the Red Sox or the Mets (of all 2 teams!) was Aug. 11 vs the Braves.

Dakota Bacus is a real name, much less a baseball player?[

He’s a reliever whom the Nats brought in down 6-0 in the 6th

That’s an ISO heavy line.

It just occurred to me that we'll never be able to trust the audio we get from a baseball broadcast again. I betcha the Marlins (and their ilk) will keep the fake fan sounds in future seasons.

Cano 2 for 3 with a HR so far tonight

1B-3B Matt Davidson makes his third P appearance of the season, but this time allowed 2 runs in 2 IP after a couple of scoreless outings

play "When The Saints Go Marching In" when he enters the game - or GTFO

Growing up watching early 90s WWF wrestling, desensitized me a bit to crowd "sweetening." At least this stuff sounds realistic. WWF used to drop in crowd noise that conveyed tons of enthusiasm, even when the crowd was visibly as animated as the cardboard "fans" lining the front rows in 2020 MLB ballparks.

Brandon Belt is now on a ridiculous 24-for-47 tear after a terrible start this season.

someone please alert the proper authorities.

That’s the type of comment that can get you a suspension. Too premeditated for MLB’s tastes.

Cubs new DH was so impressive tonight that he was pinch hit for by the previous DH, the backup catcher.

Giants have opened up a seemingly-safe 23-2 lead at Coors Field in the 8th, with backup C Drew Butera getting the last 2 outs - Butera has now pitched in MLB in 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2020 only.

that seems, well, odd.

Rockies gamely cut it to 23-4.

still, the 9th could be fun. UPDATE: double, struck out (ex-Ray Robertson), grounded out, grounded out.

Butera and his dad, Sal, have combined for 20 seasons in "The Show" with OPS+s of 65 and 51, respectively.

Sal: Twins, Tigers, Expos, Reds, Twins again, Blue Jays.

Drew: Twins, Dodgers, Angels, Royals, Rockies.

note: Sal tossed 2 scoreless innings in the bigs.

In that Giants' game, three different Giants have driven in 6 runs. I tried to see if that's a first, but I didn't have the energy to refine my key words.
   25. Howie Menckel Posted: September 02, 2020 at 12:30 AM (#5973819)
Dodgers lead 6-1 in the 9th and get two outs.

then walk, HR for 6-3, and walk.

no real need to wake up Kenley Jansen, but a Chicago sportswriter made up a save rule 60 years ago, and its details are unofficially mandatory for managers - tying run on deck, must go to CLOSER.

it's not as bad here because Jansen had 2 days off. but if they wanted him to pitch tonight, he would have started the inning.

Jansen can give up a 500-foot HR, a double off the top of the wall, a couple of walks, and a rocket gloved by the 3B - and that will be deemed impressive enough for a save!

#getoffmylawn

instead, Jansen just got a K and walked off

Watching the condensed version of the Twins-White Sox game. These Twins uniforms look terrible. Solid red jersey, solid red hat and solid white pants. Twins logo over the left breast, like a soccer crest but too big, with nothing across the middle of the jersey. Especially alarming to see this vast expanse of red on the 300+ pound frame of Michael Pineda. Exciting game though.

The Rockies have lost 2-13, 0-6 and 5-23 in their last 3 games. You'd think they were tanking. Kevin Pillar must have thought the Red Sox were bad.
