The first New York subway series was underway with the Yankees taking Game One. Frankie Frisch went 4-for-4 and the rest of the Giants went 1-for-26. Shufflin’ Phil Douglas took the loss for the Giants, and while he pitched pretty well and his team was hopeless against Carl Mays, his later actions do make me wonder if he was up to something.

Today's Birthday Team seems decent enough. No massive holes, but nothing super great either...at least on the field. Off the field, they've got two legends in Bill James and Henry Chadwick.

#2 two pretty good years as a healthy starter. 10.2 WAR. 2 WAR for 54 innings of 1.51 ERA. 4 years as a healthy serviceable starter. 2 years he doesn't want to talk about.

Eddie Robinson died yesterday, two months shy of his 101st birthday. Of the 22 former major leaguers who made it to age 100, Eddie and Billy Werber were the only ones with decent careers. I was not aware that he played for all of the traditional (1903-60) American League franchises except the Red Sox. RIP.

RIP. At least Robinson's podcast remains. He recorded a 26-minute segment as recently as September 9th.
