Primer Dugout (and link of the day) 12-5-2019

El Paso Herald, December 5, 1919:

George “Lefty” Tyler, the Cubs’ famous southpaw hurler, is in a hospital at Rochester, Minn., underground treatment for an ailment to his pitching arm, which rendered him well-nigh useless to the Chicago club for a great part of the past season. Tyler has complained for the past year or so of soreness in the left arm and shoulder, and has consulted numerous physicians without gaining the desired relief. The pitcher’s complaint has been variously diagnosed as rheumatism, neuritis, a torn muscle, and a misplaced ligament.

I, for one, am shocked to learn that yanking all his teeth out didn’t fix his shoulder.

Jake Marisnick to NYM for 2 "not high" minor leaguers.

Born on the Atlantic Ocean: Ed Porray

Bb-ref lists him as born "in" the Atlantic Ocean, which seems rather dangerous.

Also Chico Ruiz, as the convergence wanes.

Those minor leaguers are Blake Taylor, a lefty reliever who failed to live up to his prep rep but was good in the high minors last year and could see time in Houston this year, and Kenedy Corona, an overage / low dollar signing out of Venezuela who did a nice job in his pro debut.

I think without the gruesome injury early in his career, Cliff Floyd would have been a borderline HOF'er.

That broken arm was almost sticking out of his skin and took a good 2 years to come back fully (why was he at first base anyway?)

As an aside, He's pretty good on MLB tv.
