Baseball Primer Newsblog — The Best News Links from the Baseball Newsstand Friday, January 20, 2012Primer Dugout (and link of the day) 1-20-2012Providence Evening Tribune, January 20, 1912:
As it turns out, organized baseball did exactly what it should have done with regard to the Columbian League: They sat back and watched it collapse all by itself before it ever played a game. The postscript, though, is that John T. Powers spent the next offseason getting the Federal League off the ground. The Federal League, of course, eventually led to Federal Baseball Club v. National League, which indeed revolved around baseball and the Sherman Act. Jefferson Manship (Dan Lee)

Is there any news on any of them? Retiring? Back to Japan?
Drew is mulling retirement.
Defensive replacement for Betancourt?
Pena is a nice pickup for Tampa.
Guess they think Fausto Carmona isn't coming back any time soon.

There's certainly a reason, isn't there? He can still pitch and he wouldn't be offered peanuts. Guys rarely actually retire; they just stop getting job offers to their liking.
That seemed a bit odd from the Rockies. They have plenty of starting depth now, but I thought they move someone for an infielder.
Edit: and the Rockies are supposedly sending some money to Cleveland...that makes it even weirder.
