Primer Dugout (and link of the day) 9-30-2020

Pittsburgh Press, September 30, 1920:

“Buck” Weaver, suspended third baseman of the Whitesox team, is expected to tell his story of the “throwing” of the series to the grand jury today. Fred McMullin, it is reported, may follow Weaver. Both have opened negotiations for the giving of their testimony.

“Swede” Risberg, shortstop, is said to have declared he was not going to confess because he has nothing to confess. “And if anybody squeals on me,” he is reported to have said, “I’ll put them out of business.”

Elsewhere on the front page, nobody can find Eddie Cicotte, Abe Attell says ten New York gamblers won a quarter million dollars from fixing the 1919 World Series, and there are rumors that gamblers are working to get the Dodgers to throw the 1920 Series. This is why Cleveland fans can’t have nice things.

A heck of a pitching staff on today's Birthday Team. Also, as Rennie's Tenet pointed out last year, it's entirely possible that Jamie Romak is the best first baseman born on September 30. He's hit .280/.378/.544 with 128 home runs in four seasons with the SK Wyverns.

C/Manager: Gabby Street (6.4 WAR)
1B: Craig Kusick (3.9 WAR)
2B: Carlos Guillen (27.7 WAR)
3B: Dave Magadan (21.1 WAR)
SS: Zinn Beck (1.4 WAR)
LF: Jeremy Giambi (3.4 WAR)
CF: Seth Smith (11.5 WAR)
RF: Dick Cox (2.9 WAR)

SP: Robin Roberts (86.1 WAR)
SP: Nap Rucker (47.1 WAR)
SP: Johnny Podres (29.9 WAR)
SP: Johnny Allen (26.3 WAR)
SP: Nate Andrews (8.5 WAR)
RP: Kenley Jansen (16.3 WAR)

General Manager: John Mullen
Umpire: Ed Rapuano
Possibly a better middle infielder than Beck but never played professional baseball: Masayaki Furuta
Lovable goofus/spare pitcher: Jose Lima (4.9 WAR)
Fun names: Ike Blessitt, Jennings Poindexter, Sugar Ray Marimon
First overall draft pick in 2002: Bryan Bullington (-0.2 WAR)
Baseball executive in the Japanese Baseball Hall of Fame: Teiyu Amano

SP: Robin Roberts (86.1 WAR)

Roberts is a guy who has really been forgotten. What a run he had in the earl 50's. Six straight 20-win seasons, with 300+ IP in every one. If the Cy Young existed, he might have 3 or 4 of them.

It's a deep Birthday Team pitching staff when the #4 starter had a .654 W/L% over 13 seasons.

As I approach 40, I've of course gotten more interested in baseball cards. Not collecting, for aesthetic value. Just to have a sort of wall display of interesting looking ones, rotating different cards in and out.

Does anyone do this? Is there a good source for a wall decoration, framed or otherwise, to slide cards into to have on display? (not ones in PSA boxes, just cards or cards in the top loading sleeves)
