WASHINGTON — President Barack Obama on Tuesday dubbed the St. Louis Cardinals the “greatest comeback team in the history of baseball” thanks to their thrilling late-season charge into the playoffs and death-defying, seven-game triumph in last November’s World Series.

Two key figures of the championship season were absent. Manager Tony La Russa retired after the series. And star Albert Pujols signed a $240 million contract with the Los Angeles Angels in the offseason.

Uhh, he's a lawyer?
Okay I'll try again later.
He thought she was too old. I mean she had already graduated high school!
Arthur Rhodes supposedly confirmed that he was going, and he's not on the team.
Pujols has been keeping away from the team since he signed, I don't think him not going has anything to do with politics. TLR? I don't know.
LaRussa is in his 60s. He may just not want to go, perhaps partly due to his politics.
Isn't LaRussa a PETA supporter? That would mean he absolutely is not a "big animal rights" guy, but actually a loud-mouthed attention whore and/or a ####### moron.
He was also invited to the Wilson White House, but turned that one down based on Glenn Beck's recommendation.
Pujols didn't go because his background check would reveal his true age!
Edit: And I see GB had a far better joke.
He's actually kind of in the middle of those two positions. He and Marv Levy (who called hunters murderers)are the two animal lovers in coaching/managing that I'm aware of.
That actually happened to Delonte West of the Mavericks.
