1. cHiEf iMpaCt oFfiCEr JEYeesh, who on staff thought this was a good idea? And why was a high school intern given the assignment?
I assume that they exist for the sole reason of trying to get people to buy alternate versions of jerseys in addition to the regular ones.
At the risk of being controversial, I like some, I don't like others. Frankly I'd rather teams stick with their usual uniforms but there are some good alternates out there. As a general rule I don't like throwbacks though. With some very specific exceptions if you want to use an old uniform you shouldn't have changed in the first place.
I'm fine with them to wear on Victoria Day, Canada Day, and Baseball Day in Canada.
The last one was the reason they handed out red replica Russell Martin jerseys back in 2017, and I was there to get one...and watch this moment live.
Anyone who thinks those are the only acceptable choices for the Top 12 jerseys is a nitwit.
I like the White Sox Fisk/Luzinski throwbacks in part because they're so different from the current set. But they also look so much like 1983 that you wouldn't want to wear them on a regular basis.
What I don't get are the teams that wear throwbacks that are barely different from their current uniforms. When the Reds wore their 1990 throwbacks, I bet a lot of people didn't even notice.
Was that reported at the time?

Alternate suggestions welcomed, but no alternate jerseys.
OTOH here's a throwback jersey that's better than anything that's since come along from that franchise.
(And yes, I know this is all subjective.)
Imagine thinking that any Mets jersey is better than the Giants' home jersey.
Your initial post suggests you really don't.
From my perspective, any list that doesn't have the A's in the Top 5 is invalid. But you see, that's just my personal list, and any I know that any list that deviates from that is perfectly reasonable.
Well, except perhaps a list that includes the Mets in the Top 12. That's just ridiculous.

SoSH, we've been verbally dueling for countless years now, and you still haven't learned to distinguish my woofing from arguments that I actually care about? Ranking 30 uniforms is about on the level of seriousness as ranking 30 random high school women on the basis of their looks. We all have our biases, but that's all they amount to.

I would've added the A's if the jersey depicted had had the "A" on the jersey rather than "Athletics".

Okay, now you're getting into the proper spirit!
I dislike the hatred that the Rangers are getting though, that is a nice looking uniform. Mind you considering how similar all these uniforms are, I would probably have White Sox*, Diamondbacks and Rangers top 10. The Yankees, Cubs, are pretty much the same uniform(pin stripes with logo) Rockies, Mets, Phillies, Padres, are pinstripes with the team name... you can interchange these teams anyway you want.
And I can't in good conscience put any team top 10 uniform that doesn't have the players name on the back (yes I'm talking about you Chicago Cubs, *Chicago White Sox, Cincinnati Reds, Detroit Tigers, New York Yankees.)
But the "article" did get the number one choice correct, and it's mostly because of the logo and how it works with the uniform instead of just appearing as it was just added to the uniform. Braves also should be higher up for incorporating a logo into the name, even though I agree with the article, that probably won't be the case in a few years. Guardians, Twins, Rays and Reds should have a higher number than this article, the writer has way too many boring uniforms at the top, and too few interesting. Just pasting a logo or scripting the name on a jersey doesn't make it great.
I couldn't disagree more. Baseball jerseys look SO much better IMHO when they don't have a name.
The Rangers are punching above their weight because it's a throwback to their 1972 uniform, the team's first year in Arlington.
I’m with Howie on the topic (But I do care about unis). I’ll go with:
1. Tigers- Love the simple white with the Olde English D. (Admit my prejudice as a lifelong Tigers fan).
2. Cardinals- The birds on the bat, the color combo, love it.
3.Yankees- The only team for me that has pinstripes that work.
4. Dodgers- always been a fan of the red number on the front under that classic Dodgers script.
5. A’s-the white unis work real well, and extra credit for when they bust out the green tops.
6. Orioles- great color combo, but only gets this high when they wear the grinning bird hat.
7. Reds- The logo on the shirt combined with the C on the hat is a top ten combo.
8. Pirates- love the black and gold look, moves up when they wear the uni with the numbers on the front.
9. Giants- great color combination gets them into the top ten. Numbers 7, 8 and 9 are real close for me.
10. Blue Jays- the sheer cuteness of the blue jay earns a top ten slot.
1. A's - Love the green (so underused by sports teams) and the elephant is simply the best mascot in all NA professional sports.
2. Dodgers - All of it works.
3. Tigers - Also love the old English D.
4. Astros - Easily the best of their many combos (though I grew up on 70s/80s baseball, the uniforms of the era were dreadful. Baby blue is an abomination).
5. Angels - The Halo'd A is top notch.
6. Yankees - It pains me to do it, but they obviously belong. And they kill pinstripes for everyone else.
7. Pirates - Pirate patch on sleeve is excellent.
8. Brewers - Solid all over.
9. Cardinals - If they used their older logo, they'd be near the top. The current Cardinal pair on the bat are too damn big.
10. Twins - I guess. It could be a lot of teams in this spot.
6. Yankees - It pains me to do it, but they obviously belong. And they kill pinstripes for everyone else.
With allowances for bias, I'd put the Yankees, Tigers and Cardinals' uni fronts in a dead heat. The tiebreaker would go to the Yanks only because they don't put the names on the back.
Being about 122 years old myself, I also more go for the unis that go back a long way. Here are the years when the AL teams' 2022 uniforms first appeared in their basic look (pinstripes, numbers on front), with only slight modifications (sock length, cap color or shape, etc):
Orioles - 1958
Red Sox - 1933
White Sox - 1951
Guardians - 1946
Tigers - 1912 (the Old English "D" goes back to 1905, but with a large Navy blue collar that was dropped in 1912)
Astros - 2013 (the year they switched leagues)
Royals - 1969 (first year)
Angels - 1973
Twins - 1972 (first year without pinstripes)
Yankees - 1912 (though the "NY" was dropped in 1917 and didn't reappear permanently until 1936)
Athletics - 1987
Mariners - 2015
Rays - 2008 (year of the name change)
Rangers - 2020
Blue Jays (2012) (white jersey)
I'll let someone else do the NL.
1. A's - Love the green (so underused by sports teams) and the elephant is simply the best mascot in all NA professional sports.
First appearance of the A's elephant on the front of the jersey
First appearance of the white elephant on the jersey front
Cardinals - 1922 (1921's jersey front was blank)
Dodgers - 1952 (the year they added the number)
Thrilled that teams have brought back the 70s-80s baby blues. Less thrilled that MIN and TOR are using them as home alt jerseys while keeping the drab away grays. A waste of resources.
Dislike the ubiquity of red/blue combination: MIN, CLE, BOS, TEX, ATL, PHI somewhat, even the Cardinals on home Sundays. MLB should allow a couple teams to keep this scheme and force the others to do something else. Furthermore red as a primary color should be strictly rationed to the historic teams with which it is most identified: CIN, BOS, STL.
Everybody thought the loud uniforms of the 70s were the nadir of jersey style but actually it was the awkward half-assed retro/half-assed futuristic 90s that were the absolute worst. The vest jerseys were real abominations. "RETVRN" is good advice in the context of something with a long history but let's never return to THAT.
In retrospect the 70s-80s uniforms turned out to be some of the best modern jerseys, especially for expansion franchises. The 80s White Sox jersey is iconic. The late 70s-early 80s Angels jerseys with the black trim are the best in the franchise's history and also coincide with its first wave of good to great teams. The Houston Creamsicle. The 70s Indians jerseys with the name in that crazy font were pretty cool. The mid-late 70s Cowboy Hat Rangers uniforms are the best in the franchise's history; since the 90s Texas jerseys have seemed like a generic jersey from some game that didn't pay a license fee to depict a real team's uniform.
Pittsburgh's major sports teams all adopting black and gold color scheme is a stroke of genius that other cities should emulate (with different color combinations, of course) if possible.
Green is underused! MLB only has the A's while the NFL has GB, PHI, NYJ, and even JAX if you count their weird teal as green.
