Reds’ Joey Votto on IL with reported virus symptoms

he Cincinnati Reds placed veteran first baseman Joey Votto on the injured list Sunday before the opener of their doubleheader with the Detroit Tigers.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reported that Votto self-reported coronavirus symptoms Sunday morning but has not tested positive for it.

The Reds did not disclose a reason for the move but specifically announced that Votto is on the IL—not the 10-day IL. There is no minimum or maximum number of days that Votto must remain on the IL.

From what I read on another story, this is actually encouraged (if a player thinks he has COVID-like symptoms, they should speak up and be held out for a couple of days, to see if he actually does turn out to be positive for the virus or not).

Apparently Moustakas and Senzel on the Reds already did this and turned out not to have been infected.

My household (and workplace) too. This winter will be nuts...even with all the precautions I'm sure colds and flus will still go around.

I assume they’re sending him to Iowa to work on his immunodefense. He’ll probably be fine in a week.

In civilized countries, that's the official advice to everybody -- if you have even the slightest symptom, certainly don't go to work, self-isolate until you get tested, continue to isolate until you have the results. Of course in more civilized countries than Australia, the government subsidizes that but nobody's perfect.
