Reds LHP Wade Miley throws MLB’s fourth no-hitter of 2021

Wade Miley has thrown the fourth no-hitter of the season, which is a lot of no-hitters when you’re still in early May.

The Cincinnati Reds left-hander entered the history books on Friday with nine no-hit innings against the Cleveland Indians in a 3-0 win. His lone blemishes: a Cesar Hernandez walk and a double-error play by Nick Senzel, both in the sixth inning.

Miley’s final line: 9 innings, 0 hits, 0 earned runs, 1 walk, 8 strikeouts and 114 pitches.

The no-hitter is the 17th in Reds history, and 309th among MLB pitchers. It’s the second time Cleveland has been no-hit in three weeks.

Four True Outcomes: BBs/Ks/HRs/No-Hitters.

I am hoping that Ohtani tops Rick Wise and pitches a no-hitter while hitting 3 HRs himself.

It's like watching 9 innings of Home Run Derby, except there are no home runs.

Also of note, Cleveland starter Zach Plesac pitched 8 innings of 3-hit no-run ball with 7 K's and no walks.

If MLB batting average is going to be about .225, that means that the average team is going to get about 7.8 hits for every 27 outs. If a team averages 7.8 hits per game, it's not going to be all that rare that they get no-hit in a game.

Well...if you have a 22.5% chance of a hit in every AB, the odds of not getting a hit in 27 AB would be 0.001025997, or about 1 in 975. So, you'd expect a no-hitter to happen in MLB roughly once every two months.

If MLB batting average is going to be about .225,

12 points below 1968. Jesus.

When apparently 5 no-hitters were thrown all year. 33% fewer teams, of course.

wilbon and kornheiser have decided it's bad for baseball -- thes are the same guys who regularly rant about pitchers not finishing games like koufax and gibson -- so i'm all in favor of more no-hitters.
