Reds reportedly land left-handed starting pitcher Wade Miley on two-year, $15M deal

The Cincinnati Reds have agreed to sign left-handed starting pitcher Wade Miley to a two-year, $15 million deal with a club option for a third year, reports Mark Feinsand of MLB.com.

Miley, 33, had an up-and-down 2019 season for the Astros. Overall, he was 14-6 with a 3.98 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 140 strikeouts in 167 1/3 innings. Of course, he had a 3.06 ERA through August and looked like he would be a fixture in the Astros’ playoff rotation. Instead, he pitched to a 16.68 ERA in five September starts and fell out of favor. Still, he was good for most of the season.

Most unlikely modern pitcher to start 3 games in a playoff series? Of course, it comes with a huge asterisk.

they better hope they didn't get the sept 2019 version - poor control with meatballs

I think they are hoping for Sonny Gray 2.0.

1. Get Miley back with Derek Johnson
2. ???
3. Profit

This signing also gives the Reds rotation from 20-22 (the Reds have a fairly cheap option on Miley for 2022) of:

1. Gray
2. Castillo
3. Miley
4. Mahle

then hope after 2020 that one of Lodolo or Santillan are ready.

That was a weird stretch for him. In three (non-consecutive) September starts, he combined for 1.1 IPs and 16 earned runs. Somehow he managed a quality start amidst all of that as well.

yeh

i watched both the first 2 sept starts. the first one vs lousy seattle - no outs gotten - double single double home run single walk- all solid hits except the second single which was not much but IF out of place. it's like they knew what was coming or something

next game vs very good oakland - single, out, bunch of singles until 6 runs were in - then he was pulled - it's like they knew what was coming or something

he wasn't homeriffic, but whatever it was, is wasn't good.

next start vs the lousy royals - not bad, 2 walks, 7 hits, 2 runs over 6 IP - looked back to normal

net 2 starts = not zackly real too good again vs the lousy angels (xcept trout of course)

vewwy stwange

but the stros didn't lose the ws because of no miley starts, they lose because of bullpen suckage and several games of failure to hit
