Report: Athletics calling up A.J. Puk

MLB.com’s Martín Gallegos reports that the Athletics will call up pitching prospect A.J. Puk from Triple-A Las Vegas ahead of Tuesday’s series opener against the Yankees.

Puk, 24, was selected by the A’s in the first round (sixth overall) in the 2016 draft. MLB Pipeline ranks him as the organization’s No. 2 prospect behind Jesús Luzardo, and No. 43 across the league.

Something for those of us collecting great names.

Is it pronounced "Puck" or "Puke"?

Dang: in the space of 3 years, UF had 5 pitchers drafted in the first round: Dunning and now Puk (each picked in 2016) have made it to the show: Faedo (2017) looking great for the Tigers; and then Singer and Kower (2018). Since college kids stay 3 years, does that mean, unless they were a transfer into UF, all 5 were on the UF pitching staff in 2016? Wow, if so.

Dunning hasn't gotten out of AA (Tommy John), but yeah, they had a haul.

Puk yeah. His dad is my sister's optometrist.

Yep - Dunning, Puk, Faedo, Singer and Kowar were all on the 2016 pitching staff. As was Logan Shore, who was a second round pick, Shaun Anderson, who's pitched for the Giants this year, and Scott Moss, who was one of the big prizes in the Trevor Bauer trade. That team also had Pete Alonso and Jonathan India.

Amusingly, UF didn't win the SEC in 2016 and went two-and-out in the College World Series as the #1 overall seed.

Wow-great information and thank you. That is almost as much of an epic fail as Duke basketball, 2018/2019.

Ed Ott approves of A.J. Puk.
