I guess Bud Selig really wants to follow the path set by Landis and Giamatti as commissioner-for-life.
Is this really Bud not wanting to leave or the owners wanting to avoid having to find a replacement?

I still dream of a Commissioner Costas or Commissioner Gammons, but I'll happily take two more years of Commissioner Selig. He's grown into the role quite nicely.

We may never know. There is no obvious candidate among the owners, is there? Is there still a Chairman of the Executive Council distinct from the commissioner? Otherwise, they are left with either getting an outsider or appointing someone from within MLB offices, neither of which has worked out too well for the owners in the past.

It is impossible for Selig to turn down $ 20mm/year and the ability to be in the news every day and accept retirement and the relative irrelevance that comes with it.

Commissioner Wieters, it's the obvious choice.
I always liked Commissioner Gordon on "Batman".
Yes. I'm not a fan of the post-apocalyptic movie versions of the caped crusader and prefer the camp TV show.
Having said that, I like Gary Oldman's take on the character. I also loved Gordon in "Year One" (wherein he is actually something of a badass).
Q: There are three men on a boat with four cigarettes and no matches. How do they smoke?
A: They toss one of the cigarettes overboard, and the boat becomes a cigarette lighter!
I logged in just to say how much I love that joke. Brilliant.
I laughed so hard the first time I saw that episode, I thought I was going to pee myself.
But then, I'm a big fan of puns, as was my father before me. When the two of us get together, it's...not pretty.
