Report: Chip Caray the new voice of the St. Louis Cardinals

The St. Louis Cardinals have found their new play-by-play announcer for the upcoming season.

First reported by Davis O’Brien with The Athletic, Chip Caray will join the St. Louis Cardinals as their new play-by-play announcer.

I hope for their sakes that he has gotten at least some of the blandness out of his schtick. A perfectly capable announcer but it was always like listening to a national announcer not taking sides -- i.e. pretty much the polar opposite of Harry. And never shy about pointing out the family heritage.

Fun fact, per Wiki: "Chip's twin sons, Christopher and Stefan, attended the University of Georgia, and began their professional sportscasting career with the Amarillo Sod Poodles." Presumably, one or both of them will be calling MLB games by the late 2020s or so...

This is good. I like it when people I hate go to work for organizations I hate. Helps me to keep focus.

Is there a limit on how old you can be and still go by "Chip"?

well, how about "Skip?"

Not a fan of this, Chip, Skip and Harry all sucked as announcers throughout my baseball life. (Harry was good maybe prior to 1980, but never really a fan of his when I was old enough to pay attention)

I bag on McLaughlin, but I was kinda hoping that the team would just go with a cavalcade of announcers for this season, and see if he gets his life back on track, and if so, rehire him. (Assuming we weren't able to get one of the actual good announcers out there)

Basically, this is excellent news. When individuals I dislike work for companies I despise, that's good for me. It aids with my concentration.

Well, at least St. Louis has John Rooney on radio. He was great when he was with the White Sox.
