Report: OF Yasiel Puig to revive his career in Mexico

Without any options in the major leagues, outfielder Yasiel Puig will try to revive his career in Mexican League with Veracruz, ESPN reported Tuesday.

Puig, 30, burst onto the scene in 2013 with the Los Angeles Dodgers and has been a productive major leaguer but also has been a polarizing figure over a seven-year career.

The Cuba native has 132 home runs and 415 RBIs over 861 games, finishing second in rookie-of-the-year voting in 2013 when he hit 19 home runs in just 104 games. He hit as many as 28 home runs with the Dodgers in 2017.

But he also has been a handful on and off the field and had a contentious relationship at times with Dodgers Cy Young Award-winning teammate Clayton Kershaw. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts once said publicly that he spent more time dealing with issues created by Puig than he spent working with any other player on the team.

I know Puig had a down year last time he played, but plenty of guys have had worse years and gotten another chance. Shows how much of a headache he's been for teams that nobody is willing to give him a million bucks to be a fourth outfielder.

Agree... I find it hard to believe he couldn't get a major league offer at least for an option to be released. The guy is probably still better than over 50% of the fourth outfielders in baseball (and on my team probably better than all but one to be honest--- literally my team has one starting outfielder, and he's a "rookie".)

I don't think it's about him being a headache or whatever around the team. He has a pending sexual assault lawsuit, which is not mentioned in the article.

I've loved Puig from the moment he set foot in Chavez Ravine - but let me say right now WHOO he takes up a lot of your time to defend. Sometimes the attacks are legitimate, many times not so. (Dbacks fans REEEEEALLLLY showed their racist asses going after him.)

Cesar Cedeno was better than Puig, but it's almost eerie how similar their career arcs have played out on and off the field.

Naturally this means someone will pick up Puig off the scrap heap for the 2024 pennant chase and watch him rake.

Here is an article about the sexual assault lawsuit mentioned in #3. The article says that is one of the reasons teams were not signing him.

I completely resolved my question when I read this post, thanks to the author for the very detailed description. I wrote my review on the instant assignment help review, you can go in and read. Thank you very much for your attention in your time.

I think you mean the 2028 pennant chase.

the S t L o u i s franchise - do not spell it out out three times, or there are consequences - picked up Cedeno for the 1985 September stretch run.

he hit .434 - yes, .434 - on a preposterous 33 hits in 76 AB.
6 HR, 19 RBI, 14 R, 5 SB.
multiply those by 8 for a pace of.... OMG, with a .434 AVG.
1.213 OPS and 235 OPS+
