The San Diego Padres fired manager Jayce Tingler after an immensely disappointing 2021 season. The Padres collapsed in epic fashion down the stretch, failing to make the playoffs and resulting in Tingler’s ouster after just two seasons at the helm. San Diego is now seeking an upgrade at manager, and it looks like World Series champion Ozzie Guillen is a top candidate, according to Dennis Lin and Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.
Guillen hasn’t managed since 2012 with the Miami Marlins. He won a World Series as a coach with the Marlins in 2003 and then returned to manage in 2012, but he only lasted one season because of some wild comments he made about Fidel Castro.
Before that one-year managing debacle with the Marlins, Guillen was the manager for the Chicago White Sox. The White Sox won the 2005 World Series with Guillen as manager, his second title in three years.

1. Moses Taylor loves a good maim Posted: October 26, 2021 at 04:15 PM (#6049179)Anyway, this seems like a terrible idea.
Geez, and they haven't even started the friggin' World Series yet!
*guillen's comments, btw:
i've always liked ozzie, but i'll say the same thing about him that i said about gabe kapler when he was hired by the phillies a few years ago: it's not generally a good idea to put your organization's future in the hands of a nutter.
Huh? Guillen did play in the 99 series with the Braves (they lost). 2004 was his first year as a manager. Ahh, he was a coach on the 2003 Marlins -- don't think I've ever seen a coach referred to as a title winner much less it being "his" title. (Sure, references to "he was the 3rd base coach on the champion Marlins" but not "he won a title as 3rd base coach for the Marlins.")
OK, rested & ready. My arms do seem somewhat tan.
The SF Giants disagree with you with respect to Kapler
I haven't done a comprehensive search, but that has to be the lowest TTO percentage for any post-1960 player with a substantial career. Or is it?
Almost certainly the lowest of his era, but there a few who beat him (not comprehensive):
Felix Millan: 582 TTO in 6325 PA (9.2%)
Glenn Beckert: 525 TTO in 5572 PA (9.4%)
Tim Foli: 689 TTO in 6573 PA (10.5%)
Tommy Helms: 566 TTO in 5337 PA (10.6%)
Bill Buckner: 1077 TTO in 10037 PA (10.7%)

In this day of increasing communication and cooperation between front office and manager, I really can't see Guillen ever get hired again as manager. It's amazing he got hired with his attitude when he did even.
It would be fun to have Ozzie manage all of the teams he played for, though I think it's quite unlikely he'd ever manage the Rays.
