Ronny Paulino suspended 100 games for second PED-related offense

Catcher Ronny Paulino hasn’t played in the majors since 2012 and is currently with the Tigers as a minor-leaguer. Wednesday, Major League Baseball announced that he has been suspended for 100 games as a result of testing positive for exogenous Testosterone.

This is Paulino’s second offense, hence the 100-game ban instead of 50.

I can cross him off my HOF Ballot.

I always got Ryan Doumit and Ronny Paulino confused.

Apropos of nothing.

Is this the end of the Love Revolution?

So they suspected he took the PED just once and wasn't on a regular schedule? Otherwise I'm sure MLB would have bought his stolen medical records and suspended him for 211 . . . I mean 162 games, give or take.

Paulino's exactly the sort of player you'd think would have a go at PEDs so long as there is any chance of beating the testing regime. He's a replacement(ish)-level ballplayer who's about to turn 33. A small improvement and maybe he's spending the next four years as a backup catcher somewhere, making two or three million dollars and maxing out his pension. Or he doesn't use, suffers a little bit more age-related decline, and is completely done after a couple more years hanging around in AAA. The pressure to give it another try would be overwhelming.

Given the level of effort he displayed in Pittsburgh, I am, to be honest, kind of surprised to know that Ronny Paulino cared enough about his career to take PEDs even once, much less twice.

I'd be SHOCKED AND OFFENDED!!! by this news if I had any idea who Ronny Paulino was.

Paulino, 32, will begin serving his suspension at the beginning of the season for the Triple-A Toledo Mud Hens.

Toledo-cruel and unusual punishment. He should appeal and try to serve his suspension in Hawaii. What is the third offense-North Korea?

Put an asterisk on his home run total.

If a Paulino fails a drug test in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?
