A handful of top 100 prospects who will all be added (every one has over the last several years). After that I'm somewhat surprised to see that it's mostly a team's #15 or below prospect that's eligible. There are a handful of team top 10 guys and a fair number in that 10-15 range but it's mostly guys you don't expect to ever have any ML impact. The ones that aren't pitchers might well find themselves in the rule 5 draft. And I assume early all go unclaimed.

Some awesome names though. For first names, we've got Blaze, Ceddanne (and his sister Cooppe), Wikelman, Brainer, Yohendrick, Warming, Yolbert, Yosver, Euribiel, Heriberto, Wenceel, Nerwilian, Osleivis and Orelvis.

For full names we've got
Victor Vodnik -- a thug in a Bellow novel
Matt Gorski -- the guy Vodnik is leaning on
Prelander Berroa -- joins Jurickson Profar on the 1950s science fiction character all-stars
Inohan Paniagua -- Prelander's beloved
Zak Kent -- had to be a character in Rawhide
Cade Marlowe -- plays Zak Kent in the 2023 reboot of Rawhide

Cardinals have protected Moises Gomez, even though he's listed as their 30th best prospect, guy leads the minors in homeruns and puts up a .294/.371/.624/.996 line, in AA/AAA, even with the high K's you have to give him another year.

At the moment, 40-man spots are cheap unless you're planning on grabbing a lot of rule 5 guys yourself. If you need the spot eventually, you can always DFA a #26 prospect then.

Cardinals are going out of their way to fill that up. Moving Gomez to it (I think that made him 35th man on the roster) removing Reyes and VerHagen off of the 60 day (making it 37) and then buying Jose Fermin from the Guardians making it 38. Not seeing any reason for that last move(well I think they are assuming that DeJong will be gone and will need another infielder/utility guy.)

Of course it's also rumored they might just let Reyes go which seems a waste.

Walt, no love for Yohendrick Pinango?

Prelander’s wing man at the minimum.

Yohendrick made the first name list but I'm not sure I believe Yohendrick Pinango actually exists. (TBH Yohendrick doesn't give me the 50s sci-fi vibe ... unless Buckaroo Bonzai was from the 1950s. Pinango is certainly very good.)

Still I'm most excited by Osleivis and Orelvis -- surely a cheap Spanish knock-off of Asterix and Obelix.

EDIT: Now Nerwilian Pinango ... I could totally get behind that.
EDIT2: By the way, let me acknowledge that Jurickson Profar as a sci-fi character is stolen from some fellow Primate from many years back ... no idea who that was.

Although new additions to the 40-man now can’t be waived and outrighted (kept in the organization) until mid-March — the only way to remove them from the 40-man roster before then is release or trade.
