The San Diego Padres are acquiring second baseman Adam Frazier from the Pittsburgh Pirates, sources told ESPN.
Frazier, 29, who leads baseball in hits this year, is not a free agent until after the 2022 season.
In exchange, the Pirates are acquiring right-hander Michell Miliano, shortstop Tucupita Marcano and outfielder Jack Suwinski, a source told ESPN’s Kiley McDaniel.
Frazier entered Sunday hitting .327—the second-best average in Major League Baseball—with four home runs and 32 RBIs.
A 2020 Gold Glove finalist and an All-Star this season, Frazier was the Pirates’ second-longest tenured player, behind right fielder Gregory Polanco.

1. Howie Menckel Posted: July 25, 2021 at 08:39 PM (#6030354)10+ games started, infield:
1B - Hosmer 81, Cronenworth 12
2B - Cronenworth 79, Kim 14
3B - Machado 87, Kim 14
SS - Tatis 78, Kim 20
Kim has a terrible 69 OPS+, so he can now safely be removed from the 2B mix.
more interesting if Padres admit their epic blunder that is Hosmer's contract and move Cronenworth there full-time.
Hosmer seems like the dreaded, overrated "veteran presence" that teams hate to bench.
And scooping! Isn't Hosmer rated like the greatest scooper of short throws, like ever?
LF - Pham 73, Profar 24
CF - Grisham 67, Profar 18, Pham 10
RF - Myers 74, Profar 14
Frazier career is
2B 306, 62 LF, 15 RF
Profar is an 85 OPS+
so he and Kim already have 518 PA (mainly due to injuries) of about 79 OPS+ combined
Kim and Profar are versatile and can be useful in late innings. but they collectively have averaged more Games Started than the Padres have played games.
with Frazier, now when almost anybody gets hurt, you don't have to start offensive black holes anymore
he's having a career-high 129 season to boost the career mark to 105.
Rogers Hornsby is not boarding that flight to San Diego. And while Marcano didn't hit in his coffee cups this year, not many 21-year-olds would.
the Pirates have done worse before, and will again.
