Sano ‘not making a lot of progress’; Twins might consider DL

Miguel Sano tried to run in the outfield before batting practice on Monday, “and it didn’t go particularly well,’ Twins manager Paul Molitor said. So the Twins’ third baseman is not in the lineup for a third consecutive game tonight, and a stint on the disabled list is becoming more likely.

Sano felt tightness in his left hamstring on Friday night, and he hasn’t played since. “He’s not making a lot of progress,” Molitor said. “I was hoping by Day 3 we’d be seeing [him] a little bit better, being in a better position to get him back in the lineup.”

Maybe if he lost some of that weight….

I love watching (a healthy) Sano at the plate, but can't help but think the guy isn't long for the game. He looks gassed on the bases like he's running at 10,000 feet, and can't seem to stay healthy for all that long.

I love watching (a healthy) Sano at the plate, but can't help but think the guy isn't long for the game. He looks gassed on the bases like he's running at 10,000 feet, and can't seem to stay healthy for all that long.

He's a born DH or at least 1B. This bizarre insistence, be it by teams or players, that good young hitters simply have to field a position is strange as long as the DH exists. Nobody in their right mind would look at Sano and think "looks like a 3B." Especially on a team that used Robbie Grossman and Kennys Vargas last year and actually went out and signed Logan Morrison this year to DH, it just makes no sense.

LoMo is being paid $6.5 with an option. I know he wanted to stay in NY so probably wouldn't have signed for the Twins for this but Todd Frazier was just 2/$17. In the end Moustakas settled at $6.5 plus an option. Toronto traded two unranked prospects (one a decent looking young OF, one a 24-year old unsuccessful AA reliever) for Solarte (1/$4 with two options). Any of those plus a move of Sano to DH look like no-brainers.
