Sean Forman to appear on Clubhouse Confidential, MLB Network

As I said yesterday…“The ONLY downside to Clubhouse Confidential is the nightly commercial for Intentional Talk.”

I’ll be appearing on Clubhouse Confidential on the MLB Network. We are taping this afternoon and I’m pretty sure it will be broadcast tonight. The show typically airs 5:30pm and 7:30pm ET and then probably 8 more times after that. We’ll be talking baseball-reference.com and some other stuff.

I’m looking forward to meeting their crew and I’ve been incredibly impressed with how they are promoting sabermetrics on the show. If you are a stathead, it is time well spent.

Sad to say, bbc, but they've decided that this is going to be the "Broadway Danny Rose" ep of CC, which means everyone will be taking hits of helium just before they speak...

Why everybody gotta hate on Intentional Talk? I know it's not the most sophisticated of productions, but I'd still rather watch that than look at internet porn, which is pretty much what all television shows are competing with for my eyeballs.

It's going to be 5 more years until television production companies realize that this has been true since 2001.

Present a slideshow on www.historicfootballposters.com and I'll give you my entire pool winnings for the past two months. That's at least double Lassus's offer.

I saw the 730 CC today. Is it the same as the 530 show? Rob Neyer was on but not Sean.

I'm hoping Sean is on tomorrow.

That was the first time I've seen it (I don't watch a lot of TV, and DISH has only offered MLB Network for a few months).

It was disappointing that Sean wasn't on. On the other hand, what a fantastic ####### show.

never seen it, don't know the first thing about it, but that is a great endorsement.(no snark or jokes)

It was intended that way. Today's episode featured Brian Kenny doing a nice assessment of the type of player filling the role of DH and how that compares to 1973 and what the expectations were (referring to work in The Book for some background), followed by an interview with Neyer on a handful of subjects, an interview with Beinfest on the Marlins' new spendy ways and a quick peek into Casey Kotchman and what to expect from him in 2011. It was informative as hell.

oh dear and there goes all my fantasies about sean having a voice like barry white and sayin, cmere Baby Grrrl cuz time i do some in depth splainin all bout HOTTTTTTness ovah Replacement Dorx...

sean smith looked pretty smooth in the one pic i've seen of him. he's a lil too tall for my league, but if he got any kind of good voice and stage presence, he NEED to go on the show and represent

nothing keeps a geek sterotype goin like having a lot of guys on the show who look like, uh, geeks. all squeaky tenors, too.

maybe if mrs dr foreman looks anything like erin andrews, she could, uh, bring more eyeballs to the show

I've seen bits and pieces of the show but last night was the first one I watched start to finish and SoSH is 100% right. I think Brian Kenny saves the day, it would be easy for the host to come across as condescending and I don't think he does. It was a small thing but last night as part of the DH discussion they had a chart with OBP, SLG and WAR and after mentioning the first two he reference "WAR, or Wins Above Replacement." Just a quick line to tell people who didn't know what the acronym stood for and trusted the audience to understand the general concept, if not the specifics.
   26. Javy Joan Baez (chris h.) Posted: January 19, 2012 at 01:57 PM (#4040398)
Agreed. It's a fantastic show, and Kenny is a large part of why that is.

Sucks that opening monologue and the segment with William H. Macy ran so long, but there is no shame in getting bumped on Clubhouse Confidential.

brian kenney is a really good baseball man. i always wondered why on earth he didn't have karl ravitch's job on BBTN. it's not like karl is HOTTT or something

what's good about brain kenny also is that he really knows his stat, but can communicate to a non-stat audience, and doesn't come across as a physics genius trying to teach 5 year olds to multiply and they can't because they can't get what "times" means

i wish they could get someone on there who is a ballplayer who is a good ballplayer, talks well and gets stat - and is not someone who looks like a dork wearing a team uni he bought (brian bannister or that reliever guy who was from MIT).

it would also help to have mainstream writers like dick justice, who at least actually GET stats - even if they have little (ahem) hangups about things like bud selig and roids. it is just my opinion, but i would bet that he would fall over his feet in his eagerness to have brian kenny's job...
   29. Xander Posted: January 19, 2012 at 06:55 PM (#4040756)
Justice was on the show in studio last week.
   30. phredbird Posted: January 19, 2012 at 07:43 PM (#4040785)
huh, i thought most folks on BTF had seen the show. i like it a lot. brian kenny has a great personality for the show, because he looks and sounds like your basic tv sportscaster, very professional, not geeky and hasn't adopted a superior attitude because he's discovered something the dinosaurs don't get.
   31. cHiEf iMpaCt oFfiCEr JE Posted: January 19, 2012 at 07:57 PM (#4040796)
I'm surprised too. CC is easily the best baseball show around.
   32. RoyalsRetro (AG#1F) Posted: January 19, 2012 at 08:40 PM (#4040813)
The first time I tuned in Brian Kenny was doing that segment where he is dressed in a judge's robe and is "passing judgment" or whatever, and I found it kitschy. But I guess that's the exception, I have it another shot and overall the show is exactly what I want out of a baseball show. Its a smart move by MLB Network, recognizing there is a niche audience out there. Try something different rather than the umpteenth show featuring two ex-ballplayers and a host opining, or worse yet those ESPN shows where a sportswriter sits and blathers on about the day's "hot topics." I don't get why some of these channels try to appeal to the mass audiences. Basic cable is full of niches now. Even the top rated shows on cable only draw a few million viewers.

Ken Singleton would be perfect for this.

Just got an email that my segment for @CHConfidential will air tonight. (all times ET) 5:30pm, 7:30pm, 12:30am, 3:30am, etc. ON the MLB Network. Set those DVR's.

it all starts with bbc's review. we just have to wait til then.

I do occasional TV spots, can think of no blunter and more helpful critic than bbc would be.

i don't have the mlb network and would appreciate any link if possible to any footage. i've seen a pic of sean and he's a decent looking guy with the dork glasses that say BRAINZZZZZ!!

i'd like to hear the voice

of course, his audience is prolly male, so he doesn't need to be teh HOTTTTT but just the same, i'd like to watch a nice lookin guy who has a good voice and is comfortable talking and seems to be the kind of guy who would be able to listen without having to interrupt or start sounding like wilbon/kornheiser
