self-immolators alert - and May God Help Us All:

Mets plan to provide an update soon on Noah Syndergaard, who left after pitching only one inning for St. Lucie tonight. He was scheduled to go at least four innings.
   6. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: May 25, 2021 at 07:34 PM (#6020792)
Red Sox eke out a run in the 1st on a BB, single, error and HBP. Bases still loaded. All we need is a WP and PB and that covers all the odd ways to score...
   7. the Hugh Jorgan returns Posted: May 25, 2021 at 07:36 PM (#6020793)
Bugger, Vazquez lines into a DP, no more runs for Red Sox. Bases loaded, no outs; you hope to get a couple there.
   8. Howie Menckel Posted: May 25, 2021 at 08:00 PM (#6020796)'s cockeyed optimist blurb writer - we know he's not a Mets fan

5.25... Noah Syndergaard made an early exit from his second rehab start Tuesday at Low-A St. Lucie "for precautionary reasons due to right elbow soreness," according to a statement from the Mets.
Spin: Syndergaard was supposed to throw at least four innings but departed after just one. Hopefully it's just a routine bit of discomfort as he makes his way back from Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery and not any sort of significant setback.

no-hit man Kluber mysteriously exits after 3 so-so innings tonight

what could go wrong?

Mets have lost two runners in 4 innings to the universally-panned (except by Rob Manfred) gimmick where you reach the base safely, but rather than that ending the play, the fielder keeps tagging you to see how good you are at the old "Twister" game.

Villar failed at 3rd base with 1 out to douse a threat. then deGrom went for a double (yes, he CAN hit - .471 this season), and Rockies SS Story kept tagging him, with let's say a hint of vigor.

has a runner ever been called safe because it was ruled that the fielder shoved him off the bag? asking for a friend.

Joe Kelly on being the face of the anger towards the Astros: “I mean, just being real. People are sort of fake nowadays so a lot of people that talk #### online wouldn’t do it in person. They usually hide behind the computer. …But whatever. People be #######.” [b itches]

cardinals keep finding ways to mess up their pitchers.

two errors behind flaherty lead to 2 runs early for the chisox.

I am really enjoying this Cardinals "defense".
   13. Howie Menckel Posted: May 25, 2021 at 08:58 PM (#6020807)
well, he'll always have that no-hitter.... oof, if this is 'the one' after all that rehab

New York Yankees
RHP Corey Kluber left tonight's game with tightness in his right shoulder. He will be further evaluated tomorrow, which will include MRI imaging.
   14. salvomania Posted: May 25, 2021 at 09:03 PM (#6020808)
White Sox up 5-0 after two, and they have two hits. Cardinals charged with three errors, should be four.
   15. chisoxcollector Posted: May 25, 2021 at 09:05 PM (#6020810)
Yeah, how was that play in center not ruled an error?
   16. JJ1986 Posted: May 25, 2021 at 09:10 PM (#6020814)
Yes, Joe Kelly, only you are brave enough to openly criticize the Astros.
   17. cardsfanboy Posted: May 25, 2021 at 09:17 PM (#6020815)
Bases loaded one out, a foul fly ball to the deep outfield, that for some reason the outfielder decided to catch leads to the Cardinals first run..

Not sure that was a good move or a bad move, but I guess you get the out no matter what when up 5-0....
   18. Edmundo got dem ol' Kozma blues again mama Posted: May 25, 2021 at 10:15 PM (#6020824)
Poor backup C Andrew Knapp took a foul tip directly to the cup. He was down for a couple of minutes but finished the game.
   19. Howie Menckel Posted: May 25, 2021 at 10:22 PM (#6020827)
saw Kluber's post-game interview, he said his arm felt "heavy, not painful" before the game and he never quite loosened up.

said it was "nothing like last year."

I'm saying there's a chance...
   20. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: May 25, 2021 at 10:25 PM (#6020828)
Yes, Joe Kelly, only you are brave enough to openly criticize the Astros.
Would you say that to his face??
   21. bunyon Posted: May 25, 2021 at 10:30 PM (#6020829)
Kluber threw 101 pitches in his no hitter. If that broke him, he was going to break sooner or later.
   22. Never Give an Inge (Dave) Posted: May 25, 2021 at 10:41 PM (#6020831)

deGrom struck out 9 in 5 innings, leaving with the score tied 1-1. Mets picked up the win but deGrom was not the pitcher of record.

Our best hitter right now is Tomas Nido. Our second-best hitter is Jacob deGrom.
   23. The Duke Posted: May 25, 2021 at 10:59 PM (#6020838)
Joe west 5375th game. The cardinals determined to make this nine inning game match West’s longest 9 inning game ever. It’s a nice gift - we are going to make you squat behind home plate longer than you’ve ever had to. Congratulations!
   24. Hombre Brotani Posted: May 25, 2021 at 11:08 PM (#6020840)
The Angels on the happy end of a blowout for once. Shohei Ohtani with his 15th homer to cap off a 6-run inning against the Rangers.
   25. Howie Menckel Posted: May 25, 2021 at 11:31 PM (#6020846)
I missed it, but Joe Kelly came on with 2 out in the 8th in relief of Kershaw and a Dodgers 8-1 lead to retire Terror Tot on a ground ball.....
   26. What did Billy Ripken have against ElRoy Face? Posted: May 26, 2021 at 12:29 AM (#6020852)
There’s an excellent conversation going on between Bobby Grich and Mark Gubicza going on in junk time on the Angels broadcast. Incredible playing insights, and completely free of old ex-player crap.
   27. Hombre Brotani Posted: May 26, 2021 at 12:36 AM (#6020853)
Bobby Grich is the best.
