Seunghwan Oh signs with Korean team

It’s full circle for the reliever known as “The Final Boss.” Seunghwan Oh has signed a one-year deal with the Samsung Lions of the Korea Baseball Organization. Jeeho Yoo of Yonhap News Agency tweeted the report.

It isn’t every day that a player returns to a league that has a long suspension waiting for him, especially when the offense at hand was gambling….

The Pirates released Jung Ho Kang on Monday. Can't imagine that he has much of a market in the majors now.

The gambling thing is interesting. Very minor by our standards. The offense was betting a "large sum" (~ $33,000 in Oh's case) in a Macau casino. He was also fined by a Korean court.

ESPN article:

South Korea has strict gambling laws and has only one domestic casino for locals, while 16 others admit only foreigners. South Koreans are banned from betting large sums of money at venues other than the designated local casino.

Seems odd to my IANAL brain that a country could fine you for gambling outside of their jurisdiction.

Makes a little more sense to me that the it's within the KBO's right, even if the betting isn't directly on baseball.
