SF Gate: Giambi likes being mentioned with Buck

More Bang & Olufsen for the Buck…plus goofing on the Damon throwing technic!

“That’s what I’ve heard and it’s cool that I left that kind of impression here, because Travis is a phenomenal player,’’ said Giambi, now the Yankees’ designated hitter/first baseman. “Everyone keeps saying, ‘He reminds us of you,’ because of the approach and the way he swings the bat. It’s amazing how Billy (Beane, the A’s general manager) finds those diamonds in the rough and develops them, keeps the turntable going.’’

After striking out Buck looking to end the game Saturday, Yankees reliever Brian Bruney said he hadn’t liked the fact that Buck slammed his helmet to the ground emphatically and raised his arms when he scored the winning run Friday.

“It was a little disrespectful,’’ Bruney said. “It wasn’t classy.’’

Another former A’s player, Yankees center fielder Johnny Damon, was also less than enamored with Buck, who had mentioned Damon’s throwing arm after tripling the previous night. Damon didn’t think that was necessary. He said that wasn’t the reason Buck made it to third, setting up the winning run.

Off this topic, why do the Yankees feel compelled to play either very long or extra-inning games on the West Coast? I had to be at work at 7AM this morning, but I hate to turn off the radio when the game's on the line.

Why do the Yankees hate it when other teams are happy? In some baseball towns, it's okay to show emotion when you do something good. It's called having fun. It's not necessary - Garrett Anderson and Eric Chavez do just fine without cracking smiles - but as a fan I love guys like Buck (or Byrnes, or whoever).

And who the f--- is Brian Bruney to be demanding respect from the opposition? And if Johnny Damon is really pissed that his arm sucks to badly, let's just sign an agreement that the runner will be awarded the extra base and Damon won't have to use his popgun arm. Maybe the guy's to honest, but I don't think it's out of line for him to say that he'd be running on Damon's arm. There's no way he takes the extra base (or, if he does than he does so stupidly) if Ichiro is out in center.

In my experience, people hate even more for something to be said about them that is true than something that is false.

Wow, lot of typos in my post. Don't we have a moderator that copy-edits our posts?

NOPE! Too many to's and not enough too's. Now, we're all supposed to be adults here and take responsibility for our own actions. (Or mistakes as the case may be... ;) ...)

I thought it was pretty disrespectful when Bruney put up a 7.43 ERA for Arizona in 2005.

I wish the rest of the A's lacked enough class to hit, too.

I can see the similarities between the two, but Buck will need to demonstrate that little extra commitment to reach Giambi's heights.

You can't celebrate scoring the winning run now? Jeez, give me a damn break.
