1. salvomania Posted: May 12, 2021 at 12:57 PM (#6018549)Yet he has allowed just one run all season, and his 10 saves are the second-most in baseball.
How does he do it: he doesn't give up hits---just 7 hits allowed, good for a .111 avg against. When he does allow a hit, it doesn't go for extra bases: just one XBH (a double) in 79 batters faced. He strikes out a lot of hitters: 30.4% of batters faced.
And he allows home runs at a lower rate than any active pitcher (min 75 ip): zero this year, and just 3 in 91.2 career innings. (Second-best rate among active pitchers is teammate Jordan Hicks, who has allowed 4 homers in 116.1 ip).
Watching him this year, after all his injury troubles over the years, makes me really miss what he could have accomplished had he not missed almost three full seasons since his MLB debut in 2016.
Matt Harvey got a standing ovation from Mets fans when he started at Citi Field for the Orioles today. He then proceeded to get shelled and got another standing O when he left the field. The Mets won, 7-1 to extend their winning streak to 6 games.
jeez. brewers score first in st. louis.
gant hits cain, walks a batter, then the next batter hits a bomb to deepest center. bader falls down fielding it after running a mile, then loses it on the transfer, and cain tags up and scores from second.
now gant walks another batter ...
gant can't.
haha, the production crew dug up film of the famous tag up and score from second of two runners in game 4 of the 82 series against the brewers. i remember that, but forgot how much the CF falling down on the catch resembles what just happened today.
um, obviously only one runner scored from second in that game in 82 WS. two runs scored, the other runner was on third when the ball was caught.
oh baby! o'neill ties up the game!!1!!!
D A M M I T
another bad break costs us a run.
helmsley strikes out vogelsong with a 100mph pitch but it gets away from yadi, he reaches, next batter hits a double, run scores ....
but now garcia hits a moon shot
4-1 brewers
all those runs scored with 2 outs ... :-(
Nah, in 1968 they probably would've lost by that score.
Cole's Game Score tonight: 86. With 4 hits in 8 innings, no walks and 12 strikeouts. His ERA's now down to 1.37.
One offensive consolation: Judge went 3 for 4 WITH NO STRIKEOUTS (!), and every hit was smoked. That follows a homer and another single last night. And after a miserable start, the Yanks are now tied with the Red Sox in the loss column, just 1 GB overall.
cards trying to make something happen in the ninth.
goldschmidt doubles with one out ... arenado hanging in there with a full count, fouling off pitches ...
he walks!
now hader is up to 24 pitches.
sosa at the plate.
sosa grounds out ...
it's up to yadier.
ouch, game over.
in the moral victory column, now hader has thrown over 30 pitches, so probably not available tomorrow.
