1. Rally Posted: October 26, 2021 at 10:46 AM (#6049091)Bumgarner? He had only 4 hits all year, none of them left the park. Seems like he made the list for past performance. But there’s no more reason to give him a 2021 silver slugger than there is to award Babe, Ted, and the Mick as 2021 AL outfield silver sluggers.
Max Fried: .273/.322/.327, with 15 (!) hits
Jacob DeGrom: .364/.394/.394, albeit in just 33 ABs
German Marquez: .264/.264/.415, with five doubles and a homer off Yu Darvish (in San Diego, not Coors Field)
EDIT: Coke to Rally, with the caveat that it takes a while to type up those slash lines
Joey Gallo is listed at DH, where he spent all of 14 games.
Third is close but Ramirez probably edges Devers. Short is close too. I’d probably go with Correa, but Bichette is worth considering for the extra games he played over Carlos and Xander.
In the OF, there isn’t one guy in the AL who seems obvious. But Mullins should probably be the first choice. Not sure who I’d pick next. It was a lot easier when Trout played most of the season.
Otherwise why not just have three OFs and four INFs? If you don't distinguish between LF and CF, why distinguish between SS and 3B?
There is exactly one CF per league among the nominees, and luckily they are the best offensive CF in each league (Mullins and Reynolds). The other 13 OF nominees are primarily either LFs or RFs.
In the end, a trio of mortal starts (all quality starts, but 7 ER and no offense generated) had him falling just short. 10 runs produced vs 14 runs allowed (11 ER).
