For the pitchers I’d go with Marquez. Hit .264 with a homer and 5 doubles. Fried hit slightly better with a better OBP, but not as much power. deGrom might be the best but falls behind because he was only there for half the season. Same logic as what his Cy Young finish will probably be.

Bumgarner? He had only 4 hits all year, none of them left the park. Seems like he made the list for past performance. But there’s no more reason to give him a 2021 silver slugger than there is to award Babe, Ted, and the Mick as 2021 AL outfield silver sluggers.

The only interesting Silver Slugger is the one for pitchers, because nobody focuses on pitcher hitting otherwise, whereas everyone knows Marcus Semien was a better hitter than DJ LeMahieu. Bumgarner got his nomination based on his reputation, since he hit just .103/.280/.128 this year, although nine walks is very impressive for a pitcher. It's more of a horse race for the other three guys:

Max Fried: .273/.322/.327, with 15 (!) hits
Jacob DeGrom: .364/.394/.394, albeit in just 33 ABs
German Marquez: .264/.264/.415, with five doubles and a homer off Yu Darvish (in San Diego, not Coors Field)

EDIT: Coke to Rally, with the caveat that it takes a while to type up those slash lines

Lot of bad choices in there - Kyle Seager (100 OPS+), DJ LeMahieu (97 OPS+), Sanchez (99 OPS+, 117 games), Justin Turner (zero games played at 2b) - but most people probably don't remember the nominees. As long as none of those guys win...

Is that a misprint and should be Trea Turner?

Joey Gallo is listed at DH, where he spent all of 14 games.

For AL, should be obvious that Vladito, Semien, Ohtani, and Salvy will win.

Third is close but Ramirez probably edges Devers. Short is close too. I’d probably go with Correa, but Bichette is worth considering for the extra games he played over Carlos and Xander.

In the OF, there isn’t one guy in the AL who seems obvious. But Mullins should probably be the first choice. Not sure who I’d pick next. It was a lot easier when Trout played most of the season.

Not a Tiger in the bunch. (Lotta Blue Jays, tho. Look out above.)

And Ohtani should win two - DH and pitcher. He should be the first AL pitcher to win a silver slugger for the position since, I guess before the DH rule. Assuming the award is that old.

Brandon Lowe should be a 2B nominee.

I'm really mystified by this list. Seager over Moncada? Sanchez over Grandal? No Starling Marte at all? Gallo at DH? Justin Turner at 2B? Was this compiled by people that watched baseball this year?

Guess the Rangers have to hope for a couple of Gold Glove nominees instead (Garcia? Kiner-Falefa? though I doubt either will win).

They really should separate the OF into LF, CF, and RF.

Otherwise why not just have three OFs and four INFs? If you don't distinguish between LF and CF, why distinguish between SS and 3B?

There is exactly one CF per league among the nominees, and luckily they are the best offensive CF in each league (Mullins and Reynolds). The other 13 OF nominees are primarily either LFs or RFs.

For most of the (half of the) season (that he played), deGrom had more runs produced (R + RBI - HR) than runs allowed. He was literally providing more offense than he gave up.

In the end, a trio of mortal starts (all quality starts, but 7 ER and no offense generated) had him falling just short. 10 runs produced vs 14 runs allowed (11 ER).

Wisdom yes, Bryant no ... so that was obviously a good move by the Cubs.
