Soroka tears right Achilles, out for season

Soroka suffered a torn right Achilles tendon during this loss that snapped a five-game winning streak and severely bruised the Braves’ World Series hopes.

What could have been another entertaining matchup against two-time National League Cy Young Award winner Jacob deGrom turned disastrous for Soroka when he attempted to come off the mound in response to J.D. Davis’ grounder to the right side in the third inning.

Soroka fell to the ground after pushing off the mound with his right foot. He rose a moment later, limped for a few steps and then went back to his knees, where he remained while being checked by assistant trainer Mike Frostad and manager Brian Snitker.

While continuing to show obvious pain, Soroka put his arms around Frostad and Snitker as they helped him get back to the dugout without applying any pressure on the right leg.

Ouch. I talked to someone who knew wainwright and Waino said it took him two years to get back to 100%.

The Braves have a real Spahn and Sain and pray for rain rotation (Soroka and Fried/And then hitters feed?), so it’s problematic when Spahn goes down.

Soroka and Fried, and then pants are peed?

You can see the shockwave as the tendon snaps on his right leg just as he pushes off with his heel on the ground.

Woof, that is nasty.

"Soroka and Fried, then 3 days of COVID-19."

I was watching last night and as a Miami Dolphin fan my immediate thought was "that's his achilles, looked like Marino in 1993."

I guess the bright side is that this will keep his arm from too much use at a young age. Assuming doctors say that full recovery from an Achilles heel injury is very likely, this is the time for the Braves to lock him up long-term.

I mean, he's a pitcher? I like Soroka a lot, but I don't understand why the Braves would want to lock him up, and pitchers get worse with age injury or not. There's a pretty good chance that over the next 12 months he would've pitched his best baseball.

Couple that with you already have control of him until he's 28-29 now, I don't know why you go out of your way to buy out his age 30 years when you won't know if he ever gets it back for a few seasons.

pitchers get worse with age

Not really. And he's all of 22, would be FA entering age 27, we're to believe pitchers are washed up by 27 now?

Not that I confuse him with Mike Sirotka but it's enough for my brain to think "White Sox" when I see his name. If the two teams could work a straight-up swap of Soroka for Giolito, I'd appreciate it.
