Sources: Adam Ottavino agrees to 2-year, $14.5M deal with Mets

Reliever Adam Ottavino and the New York Mets are in agreement on a two-year, $14.5 million contract, sources told ESPN, reuniting the veteran right-hander with the team for which he posted a 2.06 ERA in 66 appearances this year.

Ottavino, 37, was among the most consistent relief pitchers in the National League, regularly appearing in high-leverage situations for a Mets team that won 101 games. He often provided the eighth-inning bridge to closer Edwin Díaz, who re-signed with the Mets for $102 million earlier this offseason.

This seems like a bargain in this market. Quite mediocre guys are getting 2/$14; Ottavino has at least had some excellent seasons and overall good track record. I was assuming he'd be 2/$18-20. I guess he is turning 37 so maybe he took this over some 1/$9-10 offers but nobody was willing to go 2.

Maybe he wants to keep playing for a winner.

Like this resigning much more than the Correa one. Somebody more hard-working than I should start a thread in which respondents rank the Mets overhaul best to worst.

Agree with Dave. I'm surprised Ottavino signed so late, let alone at this price. One may wonder whether Adam's preference was always to return to Queens.

Ottavino signed with the Yankees in January 2019 and with the Mets in March 2022.

for him, this is early
