Right-hander Chris Bassitt and the Toronto Blue Jays are in agreement on a three-year, $63 million contract pending a physical, sources familiar with the deal told ESPN, fortifying a deep rotation with one of the most consistent starters in the game over the last half-decade.
Bassitt, who will turn 34 in February, was among the most sought-after starters on the market and will receive the third highest per-year salary among free agent pitchers, behind Jacob deGrom and Justin Verlander. Bassitt has kept similar company in recent years, as his 3.29 ERA since 2018 ranks 11th in MLB among pitchers with at least 100 starts.

1. The Duke Posted: December 12, 2022 at 07:19 PM (#6109274)now Bassitt has left the Mets and he only got 3 years.
that said, the Blue Jays are a good organization so it's not like he has been sentenced to oblivion.
More than one person can suck at a time.
:sighs whistfully:
I can't believe anyone's takeaway from that weekend is the blame Chris Freaking Bassitt instead of deGrom and Scherzer. The guys making $35-40M a year are the ones supposed to be the aces, not the journeyman.
Good luck to him.
Journeymen don't get paid 21 million a year.
Or, at least they shouldn't.

He didn't until now. You may have noticed that the current FA market is a bit frothy.
More germane to this particular thread. I like Bassitt. He kept the pitching staff together with good, long starts while other starters were getting knocked out early (or certain strategies were employed to "save them for the playoffs." Best to him moving forward.
