Pedro Grifol is expected to be the next manager of the Chicago White Sox, an announcement that could come later this week, according to multiple sources.
Grifol, 52, has been on the staff of the Kansas City Royals since 2013, most recently as the bench coach. The Royals interviewed him recently for their managerial opening, but hired Tampa Bay Rays bench coach Matt Quatraro to fill that spot.
Grifol was born and raised in Miami, and played collegiately at Florida State University before nine seasons in the minors, reaching Triple-A.

1. Captain Joe Bivens, Pointless and Wonderful Posted: November 01, 2022 at 12:23 PM (#6103513)Why interview Ozzie in the first place? They already know everything they need to know about him.
When I saw that post I just assumed it was a resurrected thread from 10 years ago like the Met's one.
Fun fact: Grifol was the only coach allowed to act as a translator for players talking to the media. He started doing it for the Royals before their World Series run, and it made so much sense that now every team is required to hire a professional translator except for the Royals, who were allowed to keep using Grifol.
Guillen evidently failed his interview. I can only assume that Gene Lamont and Jerry Manuel failed theirs as well. And Al Lopez lasted a hell of a long time but not quite long enough.
I guess Mike Matheny made a comment saying he talked to Reinsdorf and TLR in favor of Grifol, and then the White Sox tried to play down the fact that TLR was talking to anyone on behalf of the org. So while this may be a positive step, there are still some concerns (the biggest one being Reinsdorf's continued...existence).
