Detroit Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera is Sporting News’ 2012 Player of the Year, as selected by a panel of 203 major league players.
Note: Three voters will be weeded out for obvious hardcore involvement in Erowid.org.
11. Gio Gonzalez (Nationals)/Derek Jeter (Yankees)/Craig Kimbrel (Braves): 1 vote
...However, major league players apparently still favor traditional measures of value over the newer advanced metrics. And so does at least one Hall of Famer who praised Cabrera’s offensive ability.
“He’s the best hitter I’ve ever seen other than (Ted) Williams. He’s just amazing. Watch him day in and day out, he very seldom takes a bad swing. To be able to use the whole field the way he does with power, my goodness,” Tigers great Al Kaline said. “If I could hit a ball that hard to right field, man. Whew. He plays in a big ballpark. How many times have we seen him hit to 440 and the ball is caught?”

1. TomH Posted: October 26, 2012 at 11:32 AM (#4284188)Check out the guys who have been voted POTY before; Sosa over McGwire, Bell over Trammell, many guys over Bonds, Stargell over lots of people, Billy Williams over oodles of great candidates, and the disdain for superstars of the first magnitude with well-rounded skills to be honored. Williams over Mantle in 57? Lou Brock has as many POTY as Willie Mays? ZERO times was Mike Schmidt named? You guys are great at playing the game. But you continue to prove that you don't belong on no HOF Vets committee. Yes, you know the difference between a maple and an oak; however, you have no idea where Sherwood forest is.
Yes. The maples formed a union.
Mount Davidson?
Do I just show up in the thread, or is there a registration process? For that matter, can anyone just show up for HoM elections?
If you're interested we're voting on 1977 soon.
I don't see why they can't be happy in their shade.

Doesn't matter. They're all kept equal now.
