SportTicker: [J.D.] Drew out of lineup with vertigo

Looking up at the Rays in the standings isn’t sitting well with him, it appears.

Boston Red Sox outfielder J.D. Drew is suffering from vertigo and was held out of Friday’s starting lineup against the Baltimore Orioles.

The oft-injured Drew is batting .281 with four home runs and 22 RBI in 44 games for the reigning World Series champion Red Sox.

Who was the guy that had vertigo so bad he had to retire? Nick Esasky?

Nick Esasky?

Yeah.

Cue U2 and Hitchcock jokes.

This is the primary reason Drew has been permanently replaced by Swisher in my fantasy lineup.

Because you have vertigo?

Hello, Hello
Hola!
I'm at a place called vertigo
It's everything I wish I didn't know
Except you give me something I can feel
Feel

I seem to remember Ken Dayley having the same or similar problem, shortly after he signed with the Jays. I'm not entirely sure that it was vertigo, but it had something to do with an inner ear problem.

Jason Varitek is being held out of tonight's game because of suspicion, and Kevin Youkilis is out because of sabotage. It's a real frenzy to fill the starting lineup.

I take the morning off and go back to work/school in the afternoon.
Edit: It happens about 4 times a year: not a huge deal.

The notorious J. D. Drew making headlines again.

I confess he's never been one of my favorite players, but I wish him the best here.

This isn't the first time for Drew having vertigo during the season, is it? I think it has happened at least once before.
   31. Dag Nabbit at ExactlyAsOld.com Posted: May 31, 2008 at 04:31 AM (#2800997)
I never heard that before. Maybe you have the wrong man.
   32. Sabradix Posted: May 31, 2008 at 04:57 AM (#2801004)
Poor bastard. I fully expect some day that he'll swing the bat and both his arms will fall off twisting an ankle in the process, and whilst being carted off to the nearest medical facility the ambulance ends up going off the road and into a ditch. Of course everyone survives, though the ambulance driver nerves are shot, so he lights up a cigarette not noticing the gas spewing from the punctured tank...and well...you can imagine the rest.
   33. Tom Nawrocki Posted: May 31, 2008 at 05:14 AM (#2801008)
It beats missing a game because of stage fright. Now it's more important than ever for Varitek to catch a thief. Did the Sox have to use Manny Delcarmen tonight -- you know, Number Seventeen?

I can't wait to hear a report on Drew from a foreign correspondent; I'm just spellbound waiting for more news.
   34. PerroX Posted: May 31, 2008 at 06:13 PM (#2801172)
Funnier that fragile alter-ego Milton Bradley was also out friday with inner ear trouble.

Have they ever been on the field at the same time?
   35. Honkie Kong Posted: May 31, 2008 at 06:21 PM (#2801175)
I think the Red Sox have given Drew enough Rope. Drew, for some reason or other, is a permanent Lodger on the DL.
   36. PerroX Posted: May 31, 2008 at 06:26 PM (#2801179)
If the Rays traded Baldelli for Drew, he'd account for over a fourth of their payroll.

They managed to play a few games together with the Dodgers without colliding into each other.

Ahhh, a good explanation for DePo's demise -- he was playing two players and getting less than one player's production.

Definitely a fire/ice combo.

I drafted both on my roto team but quickly corrected myself and dealt JD.

Drew hasn't been on the DL since joining the Red Sox. His problem has been a lack of power (his HR today brought his slugging up to only .434).

Or am I missing some joke that has to do with you capitalizing Rope and Lodger?

No, it's not your company. It's the bickering between you and tfbg9. He's at fault, too. I should've emailed both of you instead of expressing my displeasure in public and for that I apologize.

Anyways, I'm looking forward to this series against Tampa coming up (yeah, I know there's still another game against Baltimore.)

I was offended by the post and said so. Tfbg took that as a opportunity to engage in some name-calling and pointed it out, rather than respond in kind. I don't see how I'm bickering with him here.
