Spring training roundup: Tulowitzki relishes HR against Jays

Troy Tulowitzki homered in his first spring at-bat with the New York Yankees, the blast coming against the team that released him as part of a 3-0 win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday at Tampa, Fla.

Tulowitzki was let go by Toronto in December and is trying to revive his once-standout career with the Yankees. He delivered a message to the Blue Jays with his shot off right-hander Marcus Stroman as his first-inning swing sent the ball over the wall in the right-field corner.

“No doubt about it, it was definitely extra special,” Tulowitzki told reporters afterward. “It was a team that basically told me I couldn’t play anymore. It is spring training. It is what it is. But it was a big day for myself.”

Cardinals are about to have two future hall of fame catchers on their roster, as they are finalizing a deal with Matt Wieters.

Yes, Tulo. You have been disrespected, and now you have shown them.

Those evil Jays paid Tulo ~$450k per regular season game, almost twice as much as the ~$230k per game the Rangers paid A-Rod, $66mil in salary, $67mil in payments to Yankees reduced by $21.3mil because he opted out.

The Jays did end a 22 year playoff drought and lose back-to-back LCS and the Rockies paid the rest of Jose Reyes' contract so it wasn't the worst trade the Jays ever made but I'm glad Troy is talking about having a big day in spring training against the team that paid him ~$100mil and then released him so he could continue his playing career for any team he wanted. It makes sure I don't miss a self centered prick with no grasp of reality.

Just keep it up, Troy. Only a little fewer than 200 games to go.

I don't think that take on Tulo is fair. All he is really guilty of is having a different opinion of his future ability than the team he was contracted to play for.

And before he blames this fully on the Blue Jays, remember that if they had found a team who was confident he was still useful, they would have made a Russell Martin style trade.

Sure, the Yankees have given him a shot - but a zero risk shot.

I hope he proves he can still play... but I expect he will turn out to be the next Jose Bautista.
