Shortstop Andrelton Simmons and the Minnesota Twins are in agreement on a one-year, $10.5 million contract, sources familiar with the deal told ESPN’s Jeff Passan.
A four-time Gold Glove Award winner, Simmons has established himself among the most brilliant defensive shortstops in baseball history. Since his first full season in 2013, Simmons easily leads the majors with 172 defensive runs saved (Colorado Rockies third baseman Nolan Arenado is second with 120).
Simmons will be the Twins’ starting shortstop, with Jorge Polanco moving to second base and Luis Arraez still expected to get plenty of at-bats in a super-utility role.

1. The Duke Posted: January 26, 2021 at 09:44 PM (#6001998)Simmons could presumably play 2b or OF also given how well he plays SS.
Maybe Simmons has lost something; he is on wrong side of 30, but supposedly one of the best defensive SS of all time, that would seem to be worth more than a player who has been disappointing his entire career.
But, maybe Simmons' hitting has regressed?
It hasn't been tested, but I'd be very surprised if one of the top 5 fielding SS of all time(not career, but DWAR per year) couldn't play any other position on the diamond exceedingly well(catcher excepted of course).
This seems like a steal to me.
Our business database is highly accurate and up to date because we get these contacts from the similar sources like LinkedIn, Yellow Pages, b2b portals, several other online business directories and government sources. We are updating our database regularly per a month. You can get the entire “26.33 Million List of Companies in the USA” from our website.
And his defensive stats at second look perfectly fine to me. The major issue there is that he's have been subbing for Mazeroski and let's face it, not as good as Maz is not the same thing as bad.
I think the Profar contract was just an over-pay.
The guys a barely average hitter who doesn't really have a position.
It's a good deal for MN in that it's only one season, and it's a chance for Simmons to reestablish himself and hope to get a longer contract next offseason. Simmons is a guy who hit like Vizquel but fielded like Ozzie his first four seasons, and that's a great player. Then at 27 and 28 he found a way to become a bit above average, not by much, with the bat, and he was playing like a HOF shortstop. However, in 2019 he was injured, missed quite a bit of time, and hit like Vizquel again, and in 2020 he also missed quite a bit of time although the bat came back a bit. He's now on the wrong side of 30, which usually means, even for an excellent shortstop, that defense is on the decline. I'm not at all surprised he took a one year bargain deal to try to show he's healthy and able to be highly productive again. I hope he will, it's so fun to watch someone glide across the diamond at short making plays look so easy, and making plays almost no one else can make.
A guy who hits like Vizquel but fields like Simmons is an excellent player, right? I mean, the guy who hit like Vizquel and fielded like Vizquel is getting treated like a borderline Hall of Famer.
He's had some injury trouble the last two years, in one of which it appears to have affected his bat. But if this is what Andrelton Simmons costs, a lot more teams should have been in on him.
??? Are you serious?
From 2015 to 2019 Simmons averaged 5.0 WAR, Galvis 1.5 WAR.
Simmons projects to 3 wins, Galvis to 0.7.
Well, yes, but... there's a pretty big "yes, but" there. Vizquel is being treated that way as a career - not peak - candidate. Vizquel had 24 seasons, Simmons has 9 seasons (which, honestly, given 2020, is really 8).
Galvis projects to a 75 wRC+, with average D. You don't really want him to play at all.
Even if Simmons gets hurt, they've got a bunch of depth with Polanco and Arraez. Someone as good as Galvis should always be available.
