The Cardinals and former pitcher Joe Magrane received a shout out from the judges during the debut of American Idol on Wednesday night.
Magrane’s daughter, Shannon, 15, from Tampa, Fla., was auditioning. She mentioned that she was a volleyball player and said that she had an athletic family.
When she explained that her father was Joe Magrane, who pitched for the Cardinals in the 1987 World Series, the Idol judges immediately became impressed and asked to meet her family.
The entire Magrane family came out, and Joe shook hands with the judges.
There was a bit of an awkward moment when Joe asked Steven Tyler how things were in Beantown.
Tyler responded, “Hot, humid and happening - just like your daughter.”
Magrane was certainly exercising better control than he did at the end of pitching career - Tyler is lucky he wasn’t pounded.

Neh. And I just don't like tall girls.
hahahaha
but she is a pretty grrl - looks natural
i saw jennie finch at the juicebox when her husband pitched (briefly and badly) for the astros. she really IS 6' tall (unlike, say jeff bagwell and a whole lot of other ballplayers) and she really IS beautiful.
I couldn't believe they left it in the final cut of the show.
I don't watch the show, but even I know that's a gold line that you DEFINITELY leave in.
They didn't bring Steven Tyler onto the show for his musical evaluation skills. He's the comedy portion of the team. I assume J-Lo is the emotional portion, and that other guy (Randy something?) is the one that can actually determine singing ability.
