Strawberry: Jeter Must Embrace A-Rod

Bah, the last time Jeter tried that…he ended up getting stuck with the error.

Darryl Strawberry thinks the Yankees’ clubhouse is beset by bad chemistry that can be cured only one way: Derek Jeter needs to “embrace” Alex Rodriguez.

...“OK, so what, he hasn’t hit well in the playoffs yet,” Strawberry said. “How many years did it take Barry Bonds before he clicked in the playoffs? Think about it. I know he hasn’t performed like Jeter has in the playoffs. Jeter’s a different breed. There’s ice water in his veins. There ain’t no pressure on him. He knows he’s been there and done that. I just hope they work it out.”

I agree with Straw.
That said, this article serves as a fine reminder that the AP's baseball coverage is little more than all Yankees, all the time.

Jeter Must Embrace A-Rod

That is a mental image I do not need.

No offense but I thought Strawberry was back in prison again.

The idea Arod desperately needs to be liked has been exposed as a laughable fraud. The article on Nov. 23, 2006 by Harvey Araton in the NY Times gives some simple facts. The writer isn't on a crusade. I'd explain it here, but it would be ignored, so I refer you to the article. Arod may have problems, but this "being liked" persona is officially dead.

I'll save all interested parties the $5 NYT archive fee and some unnecessary reading. Here's Mr. Araton's conclusion:

Raw power may make you a most valuable player, but A-Rod, as talented and hard-working as he is, still hasn't mastered the subtleties of team interaction, the intangibles that postseason awards typically don't address. Without them, there is no way for A-Rod to reach the pedestal on which Jeter still stands.

I think this might fall safely into the James 'Fog' stuff--

These guys already embrace plenty (and there's nothing wrong with that).

I'm having a hard time understanding why anyone cares what Strawberry has to say about much of anything! A-Rod, Inc. has too many corporate worries to be overly concerned with postseason results.

Strawberry. Chemistry. These things just write themselves.

Just follow the Strawberry-Hernandez example, kids, and everything will be alright!

I see nothing wrong with Strawberry's comments. Considering he was part of a team that should have been a dynasty and the problems he had while playing in NY tells me he might have an idea of what he is talking about.

Now had crystal meth been more popular in the 80s no team would have had better chemistry then the Mets
