Sterling even has his very own page at baseball-reference, being a 47th round draft pick of (who else?) the Rockies in 2009, but no playing record because apparently he didn't sign. Probably couldn't afford the pay cut.
I feel for Clinton McKinney, taken by the Rox after the kid who played club ball at Arizona State.
Never heard it before. It would be an odd one because scouts are wrong all the time.
This guy was also drafted in the 47th round in 2009. He's had an interesting career: pitched three years in the White Sox org, released, played independent ball, signed with the Yankees, played AA and AAA ball, went overseas to Taiwan and Australia...and he's still active, pitching for the Rakuten Monkeys of the CPBL!
Longtime Knicks and Rangers owner Jim Dolan is the son of Charles Dolan, the visionary who not only created HBO but arguably the entire concept that people would pay extra money for quality programming on this new cable TV idea.
I have met Jim Dolan - and he is no Charles Dolan.
so even more brilliant minds often wind up with dullards for offspring.
If I've ever heard it before, it didn't stick. I suspect it is close to true in that you can't trick a scout into thinking you know and can evaluate scout-y type stuff when you can't (i.e. they can spot a fraud scout). But scouts also know there are only 30 possible employers out there so if a reporter asks "what do you think of Sterling Monfort's scouting acumen?" you say he's proven whether you believe it or not.
And seriously -- you're rich and you're gonna name your son Sterling? Might as well be a Rodney Dangerfield movie.
Reversion to the mean is real.
he is quite literally the son of a "Dick."
he's probably not complaining
