‘Summer of Rivera’ closes with Yankee Stadium celebration

NEW YORK (AP) — Taking his familiar position on the Yankee Stadium rubber, Mariano Rivera wound up and delivered his famed cut fastball to his son, Mariano Jr.

It was high and outside, but no one seemed to mind.

The pitch came Saturday during a pregame celebration for baseball’s greatest closer and capped off the “Summer of Rivera.” It’s stretch that saw him hit an inside-the-park homer and get a save during his debut in the New York Yankees’ annual Old-Timers’ Day game and be inducted into the Hall of Fame as the first unanimous selection.

“I’m glad I did OK,” Rivera told the crowd.

And I thought the increasing number of retirement tours we’ve been getting lately have been obnoxious enough…..

You want obnoxious? How about that ad with Bud Selig and Mike Trout that runs, oh, only about 5000 times a week during EVERY goddam baseball telecast, along with the one about Humble Mike Trout Who Doesn't Care If Anyone Says He's The Greatest Ever, He Just Wants To Play.

They aren't actually that bad the first 2 or 3 times you see them, but don't these things EVER have a pull date? Or can't baseball find any other advertisers to fill in the time?
