Taking Back the Ballparks - The Results

And so we’ve reached the end. I want to thank everyone who participated over these past 18 months. I hope you enjoyed it.

Here’s the complete list of names. I’m not going to link every name up to the discussion, but if you click on the A’s thread here, you can find all of the nominating and voting threads.

The final names as chosen by BTF. You’re welcome to use these at any time, particularly in lieu of any of the corporate monikers that replace the previous corporate monikers (as transpired in San Francisco, Seattle and Milwaukee since our endeavor began).

We’ll order these by division

New York Mets - Willets Point
Philadelphia Phillies - Citizens Park
Washington Nationals - Nationals Park

NL Central

Upon request of Greg Pope, who deftly used Sonoran Grounds in the existing Rangers stadium thread, here is the complete list of BTF-approved stadium names.

Thanks for organizing this. It was fun.

I was going to list off all the nominators, but (a) it's a lot of work, and (b) it would really just be a chance for me to take a victory lap on Autry Field, which I can do right now without all that effort.

Hey, I managed to drop Sonoran*, the only one of my nominees that got the nod, into the first comment in an even more subtle way.

* I only warrant half to 3/4 credit, as I didn't have Grounds attached.

As someone who IIRC voted for City Field, I still am not a huge fan of Willets Point. Most of the changes are massive improvements over their current names, though, and Astrodome 2000 is the ####### best name ever.

The only one I really don't like is the Fish Tank, but overall this was a great project.

Agreed about Astrodome 2000.

I also enjoyed the exercise. Thanks for keeping up with this for an entire year and a half. It was fun to see the joke suggestions as well as the real ones, and I, for one, appreciate everybody who took time to make suggestions. I think we lost some steam at the end. Seemed like the voting threads got pretty short there. But still, I think this project helps us as a community.

Personally, I'm glad to see that we ended up avoiding naming any parks after players. It just didn't seem right to me, but there was certainly a group of people who felt differently. That's why we vote, right?

I'm proud that one of my suggestions was selected (although clearly Rusty disagrees).

Now, on to disseminate the park names into the world!

The very best one is the Fish Tank, and overall this was a great project.

Fantastic work! Gotta love Astrodome 2000.

This project was yet another argument against direct democracy, actually.
