The Bryce Harper saga has gotten so ridiculous Smash Mouth now claims to have inside info

News came down early Monday that the Los Angeles Dodgers had re-entered the race to sign Bryce Harper, which most frustrated fans of the rival San Francisco Giants. Giants fans want Harper hitting dingers into McCovey Cove, and if not, they certainly don’t want him in Dodger Blue.

If you don’t believe us, go ask Smash Mouth.

No, that’s some weird Twitch user or some newfangled social media platform you’ve never heard of. We’re talking about Smash Mouth, the band. You know, the one that sang “All-Star” back in 1999.

Mind you, it’s only slightly more ridiculous than taking Jon Heyman seriously….

For example, I've never heard whatever it is that people love about "Losing My Religion" and would take "Half a World Away" from the same album 100x over.

Same here. Other than Endgame, which is kind of a (probably intended) joke LMR might be my least favorite song on the disc. I *might* like it better than Texarcana and Near Wild Heaven. It isn't in the same galaxy as Radio Song, Me in Honey, Belong, Shiny Happy People, or Country Feedback.

I'm just the opposite of you on REM - their "greatest hits" are typically some of my least favorite songs on their respective albums.

Seconded.

Radiohead would have been pop rock if they'd have faded into obscurity after "Creep."
Didn't they?

(I keed, I keed!)

You sir, have no place in polite society. Or here at BBTF either.

Chronic Town:

No real "hits," as far as I know. I can take or leave Stumble, but Gardening at Night; 1,000,000; Wolves, Lower; and Carnival of Sorts, to these ears are and forever will be epic classics -- particularly now that there are a bunch of live versions in the catalog.

Murmur (*):

Singles: Radio Free Europe, Talk about the Passion.

TATP is probably my favorite song on the album; RFE somewhere in the middle. I like TATP, Pilgrimage, Laughing, Catapault, Moral Kiosk, and Sitting Still more than RFE without question.

(*) One of the 15-20 iconic albums of the music era that started with the Beatles.

I may only lurk here these days but I'll be good and goddamned if I'm going to sit back and let wanton insulting of Pavement go by unchallenged like this.

Ah, the glory days of BBTF.

I firmly believe that when LMR beat out Queensryche in the 1991 video music awards, it caused a cultural perturbation that oscillated through the ensuing years and creating something like a harmonic convergence that overwhelmed and eventually destroyed 90s music. Almost everything bad about 1990s music can be traced back to that unfortunate day. In general I don't think we've ever recovered, even to this day.

As bad as that caused the 90s to be, however, at least Chris Isaac didn't win.

Sorry Lassus, Fastball is better (or at least more well known) than Semisonic. I can think of four Fastball songs* off the top of my head, and I quite like three of them. I only know of the one song from Semisonic.

The Way, Fire Escape, Out of my Head (all good and/or fun), and You’re an Ocean (not great).

You are almost completely correct. Those are the four Fastball songs. However, there are two Semisonic songs: Singing In My Sleep and the famous one. This puts them only two songs behind Fastball, and one song behind Tonic.

Sad to have missed the R.E.M. discussion. IMHO they have three albums where the best songs are also the hit songs. Document, Green and Monster. However, Losing My Religion is good.

I know two semisonic songs. Secret smile is the other one. Know of only one fastball song.

Same here, except that for me the other one is Singing in My Sleep. Fantastic song.

If I knew four Fastball songs, I'd question why I haven't shot myself.
