Yankee pitchers Nestor Cortes & Wandy Peralta were put on the Covid-19 IL today. The Yankees have long been over the 85% vaccination threshold that allowed relaxation of some restrictions, but they were hit in May with 11 positive tests among those vaccinated in their traveling party, which makes one wonder about the accuracy of the testing.

Does it, though? Being vaccinated doesn't mean you can't get sick. It just means you probably won't be hammered by the sickness or end up with long-term impacts.

Seems silly to cancel games. If there were an outbreak of the flu, would we cancel a game? Last year, they just brought up others from ATS, right? Can’t they do that here ?

The Marlins and Cardinals were both delayed for a few weeks at points.

That was prior to the vaccine - they shouldn’t need to do that now

Not sure that a few asymptomatic, vaccinated players testing positive among 85%+ vaccinated teammates is still sufficient reason to postpone games. Bad timing that it’s the only game today.

Guess it's a zero game omnichatter, then. So how about that trade deadline? The Dodgers could use a guy like Danny Duffy in the rotation.

amusing to see the number of Yankees fans on social media who are recommending that MLB "just cancel the season, for safety reasons."

yes, I'm positive THAT is the reason.

The Braves on Thursday night acquired veteran outfielder Joc Pederson from the Cubs in exchange for first baseman Bryce Ball, ranked as the No. 12 prospect in Atlanta's farm system by MLB Pipeline.

Ball is 22 years old and still in A-ball. So, basically a salary dump then.

"Who needs Schwarber when we can just sign Joc Pederson instead?"
   12. The Duke Posted: July 15, 2021 at 09:51 PM (#6029224)
As has been said on other threads the Braves didn’t need to send a bag of balls, just………..

It takes a lot of baseballs to add up to a guy who's listed at 6'6'', 240.

In weight, my napkin math says about 752 baseballs. I'm too stupid to work on the mass/volume component.
   15. Joyful Calculus Instructor Posted: July 16, 2021 at 09:46 AM (#6029244)
Baseballs are .7-.8 g/cm^3. Humans are about 1g/cm^3. So the volume of baseballs would be greater than the volume of an equal mass human.

752 is about 15 home-depot style buckets.

Whereas I can fit an average-size human in 5 home depot-style buckets.
