The Latest: Cuomo can envision baseball in NYC this summer

The Latest on the effects of the coronavirus outbreak on sports around the world:

___

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo says he can envision baseball games being played without fans this summer at Yankee Stadium and the Mets’ Citi Field.

“Be creative. Try to figure it out,” the Democrat said during his briefing Sunday. “But if players could get paid more than staying home and owners would get some revenue versus total shutdown, why not? I’d love to watch.”

Cuomo says he has spoken with owners of professional sports teams, but he did not identify which ones. They would have to make the economics work without gate revenue but with broadcast revenue.

For those who wish for a space to discuss the effects of the current situation on baseball- please keep all general discussion in the other thread, as I will curate this should you do otherwise.

No.

I mean, yeah, I can envision it too. Beautiful sunny summer day, Hendricks going for the Cubs against DeGrom...Bryant cracks a leadoff homer!

It's a beautiful vision. I can almost taste a hot dog and a cold beer.

I read this as "Cueto" and then I was all like "New York? Isn't he on the Giants or something?", and then I read it again and realized that one way or another, I really need some baseball. Excuse me, I'm going to go play RBI Baseball II for a while. Candiotti has a wicked breaking pitch; I bet he can strike out Darryl Strawberry.

He's too late. I envisioned opening day as scheduled. really masterful 3-hit shutout. Nice way to start the year.

I used to tell people that I would get depressed in the off season, and originally I just thought it was they typical holiday blues that people talk about, but eventually I realized that I just missed baseball, and got front page baseball, and would simulate seasons after seasons and if somewhat fixed the issue. (Diamond Mind a few years later of course)

Imagine how depressed Rogers Hornsby would be right now...

An abbreviated schedule would be kind of wild... even something more akin some kind of toss out the playbook round robin playoff.

(Almost) any given team can have a nice month or two...
