The MVP, Cy, Rookie, Manager finalists are ...

The Baseball Writers’ Association of America honors are the centerpiece of awards season, and the field of finalists for this hallowed hardware—the Most Valuable Player, Cy Young, Rookie of the Year and Manager of the Year Awards—is now officially narrowed down to a select few.

Voting for the BBWAA Awards took place at the conclusion of the regular season (meaning postseason performance does not come into play), and the top three vote-getters for each award were announced on MLB Network on Monday night.

Here’s a rundown of who is in the running and when the award winners will be announced

So, what broader meaning can we obtain from this list of finalists?

AL MVP: Bregman, Trout, Semien ... I bet you can get great odds on Semien. :-)
NL MVP: Bellinger, Rendon, Yelich

AL CYA: Cole, Verlander, Morton
NL CYA: deGrom, Ryu, Scherzer

AL ROY: Alvarez, Lowe, Means
NL ROY: Alonso, Soroka, Tatis

AL MOY: Baldelli, Boone, Cash
NL MOY: Counsell, Schildt, Snitker

My guesses: Bregman, Bellinger, Cole, ???, Alvarez, Alonso, Baldelli, Schildt

If the playoffs counted, Rendon would be NL MVP but I'm guessing they went Bellinger. I really don't have a feel for NL CYA. I suspect Ryu lost it down the stretch but Scherzer wasn't super-Scherzer and missed a few starts ... so probably deGrom but the Mets "disappointed" (no fault of his) and he still didn't rack up wins but didn't have the extra-super ERA. So the choices are to let a slightly worse deGrom repeat, vote for a "lesser" Scherzer or stick with the guy who would have won it if the vote was on Aug 15.

Ryu gave up 21 of his 53 R (21 of 47 ER) in 4 starts at the end of August and start of Sept, resulting in 3 of his 5 losses. That took his ERA from 1.45 to 2.45. He then finished the season with 3 starts with a 1.29 ERA.

I saw this headline and was confused because I was sure they had already announced the winners. Like, positive. Memory is weird.
