I was watching in my apartment in Noe Valley, and after the game I walked zombie-like to a favorite burrito spot, for food comfort, and there I saw another guy wearing a Mets hat, and we just look at each other and shook our heads. Honestly, that day was a sea change in my fanhood, since then I've been unable to reach the heights of emotional investment that I was once capable of. Even when the Mets lost the world series, even when Duda threw that ball away, it caused me no more than a few minutes of pain. I think it's better this way, to be honest, but it wasn't a conscious decision, it's a post-traumatic coping mechanism.

Jacob deGrom's MRI on his hyperextended right elbow revealed no ligament damage, the Mets announced on Thursday morning. The ace right-hander has been cleared to prepare for his next start, but he will be monitored for soreness and other potential setbacks.
Nothing to see here...everything is fine...everything. is. fine... everything. is. fine...EVERYTHING! IS! FINE!

I'll be at the Saturday and Sunday games, so if you see someone go up in flames during the game you can probably guess who it is. At least I'll have a Cespedes gnome.
It figures that after they get a win to bust a losing streak, the starting pitcher the next day for the opposition is named Luis Castillo. I don't believe in bad omens; but if I did, that would be one.

1988 for me. Beat the Dodgers like a drum all year, then lose in 7 after taking a 2-1 lead in games and having game 5 all but won. Didn't sleep at all that night. Stupid way for a so-called adult to live.
Nowadays wouldn't make much difference, I never sleep well regardless. Maybe it's time to start caring again.
The most traumatizing period for me was probably 2006-2009. I remember being disappointed in 87 and 88 though even though I was 8 and 9.

HEY NOW!
It was worse than the Mets feared.
Juan Lagares will likely miss the rest of the season after completely tearing the plantar plate in his big toe. Lagares suffered the injury banging into the wall Wednesday chasing a Gio Urshela fly ball in the Mets’ loss to the Blue Jays.
Initial X-rays were negative, but an MRI revealed the extent of the injury.
The injury further weakens the Mets’ outfield after Yoenis Cespedes was placed on the disabled list on Wednesday with a mild strain of his right hip flexor.
WHEEEEE!

Add Matz to the pile. And another walkoff loss to Atlanta.

Yeah this is shitty & depressing. But Robles & Ramos are both down, and Swarzak is taking his damn sweet time coming back, *and* Blevins is broken, so this is where we are.
At least the offense is working a little--don't know if anyone expected Nimmo to be slugging over .500. The consensus earlier in the season seemed to be A-Gon to the bench and Bruce to 1B, but A-Gon is outhitting Bruce by a decent margin right now (and Dom Smith is just sucking a tailpipe in Vegas). Amed's hitting .313/.353/.594 in his last 10.
As much as it seems like injuries are contagious sometimes, they are not. It doesn't appear that either Noah's or Matz's injury is serious, and I think Frazier and Cespedes will be back soon. Some changes need to be made for sure, and I definitely feel like the last week of games has been water torture; but in reality I think this team will play good baseball when they are all healthy again. I hope LOL

The issue with Cespedes and Frazier is that these things could linger for a while, even after they're back. Frazier though said he's taking advice from Reyes about returning too soon and reinjuring, which is a good sign. Just as long as he closes his ears if Jose starts offering hitting tips...
Nats-Braves this weekend should be very interesting. It is definitely frustrating that Jose is still on this team. I hope he is the first one gone when Frazier returns.

I was always disappointed at myself that I didn't post in this thread when it first went up. I was reading this site for sure (I may have Ackbared a time or two back when we weren't being tracked). So today I wanted to see how early I did post in this thread... Shocked it was still 2005! Cripes. What a life.
Wow. The start of this thread predates my join date by nearly half a year, though I'm pretty positive I monitored it before that as a non-Primate, mainly because Kazmir's debut as a Ray property came here in Montgomery (in a game I attended). That was the franchise's first year; the roster included the likes of Joey Gathright & Melvin Upton. Also James Shields, who obviously is older than I realized.
Glad to see that I posted on the first page of the thread...and then didn't post on it again for 11 years :)
Anyway, I'm pretty sure the game is sold out now. I bought tickets to the Sunday game a few days ago, thinking that if Wright came back it would be for the last game of the season, not the penultimate game. At that time, tickets in the section I bought were going for about $50 each on Stubhub. After the announcement they were going for closer to $500 apiece.

So this thread is going to last longer than Wrights career. Thats so mets
Alas, didn't have my computer when I heard of the announcement, so this morning was the first I could check tickets. Standing room currently $131 and up on StubHub. Would love to be there to give DW many standing Os, but not if every O I give is a standing one, unless it's only $50 or so.

There have been discussions, a source confirms, on a potential 3-way trade between the Mets, Yankees and Marlins that would bring J.T. Realmuto to Flushing and could send Noah Syndergaard to the Bronx.

If the Mets trade Noah Syndergaard to the Yankees I am done with them. Say what you want about Sandy, but he understood the bond that fans form with certain players. Who exactly is the face of this franchise if not Syndergaard? And to trade him to the Yankees? To paraphrase Jon Stewart, I'd rather walk in on my wife @&!*ing the Yankees. Almost.

not to go against the spirit of the thread, but I saw the full deGrom interview and I suspect they have dodged a bullet here. he just had an MRI a couple of weeks ago before signing the contract, and no issues at all. plus he had a fever and strep throat, and a sore back as far as full body soreness (he's human!). so with all that, and a little discomfort, he informed the club.

Don't forget Justin Huber and Matt Peterson for Kris Benson (had a couple of more moving pieces, but that was the net result). That one seemed almost as bad at the time. Peterson was their second best pitching prospect, and Huber was a catcher in AA with a .400 OBP.

Yeah maybe a nice reminder not to get too worked up over dealing non-elite prospects...but still what a CF the whole Broxton thing was. The JD Davis trade looks to be working out, except that the Mets have one position for 3 guys. If Cespedes wasn't a ####### & Nimmo had a functional neck, they'd have a real logjam on their hands in LF.

FWIW, 2019 has all the makings for a repeat of the Zambrano/Benson deals, except that the Mets don't have any good prospects left. Brodie is desperate to make himself look good this year, and the Wilpons seem to have his back...that's a dangerous combo...
