According to Cardinals manager Mike Shildt, Harper reached out to Cabrera with an empathetic text message following the night. Shildt was so impressed with Harper’s gesture that he mentioned it unprompted during a postgame news conference with the St. Louis media.
“You want to talk about a first-class move,” Shildt said on Harper’s text to Cabrera. “look, the guy is an excellent player. He’s got a trajectory that puts him in a pretty special place after this career, which is still going to be a long one.
“Whoever is a fan of Bryce Harper, or whoever has children that are fans of Bryce Harper, support that guy because what he sent over in a message today was completely a class act. He wanted to make sure that Génesis knew that he was aware it was unintentional and that if he needed to talk and make sure he was OK mentally about what took place, then he was free to have the conversation with him. He had empathy for the guy that hit him, so a lot of respect for Bryce Harper and a lot of respect for the kind of player he is, but even more respect now for the way he handled a tough situation.”

Silliest graphic ever? Celebrating yesterday's hurricane of Cub hits, Marquee ran of bunch of graphics including that 10 different Cubs had a hit yesterday, the first time that has happened since .... way back in 2019!!

For those not wasting a bit of time on a Sat morning wandering around the b-r team pages ...
Nelson Cruz, age 40, is hitting 338/378/676 which is good for a 204 OPS+.

More meandering, actually related to the Cubs-Reds game I'm watching. Remember the Reds decided to move Suarez to SS to fit India at 2B (MooseTacos to 3B). According to Rfield, Suarez is -7 already. He's also putting up a 32 OPS+ and up to -1.2 WAR already. India has a line of 239/316/358, 78 OPS+ and no spectacular defense. (Moose is having a nice season.)
Suarez is under contract for 3 more cheap years and was the Reds' star so, whether it's to blame his poor hitting on the position shift or a recognition his defense isn't very good at SS, I expect a move back to 3B, Moose back to 2B, India to the bench or minors. But I have no idea who they have at AAA or what else is out there on the SS market. Cleveland would probably part with Amed Rosario but that's not much of a solution.

Matt Carpenter with a 3-run pinch-hit homer in back-to-back games.
He's now 5-for-43 on the season, with 3 homers and 10 rbi.
Tom Moore @TomMoorePhilly
Decent ovation for the #Phillies' Odubel Herrera after he reaches base on a bunt single.
ugh.

jehosophat.
with two outs in the pirates 6th, bases loaded, whitley balks in a run, throws three in a row in the dirt. the last one gets past kinsnzner (sp?) and the bucs score again ...

Another three run homer from Matt Carpenter in a pinch hitting role. Shildt has now figured out the perfect role for him
Tom Moore @TomMoorePhilly
Louder boos for Roman Quinn pinch-hitting in the 7th inning than Odubel Herrera as the previous batter. #Phillies

Ohtani with another homer, his 8th on the season. Right now, he's tied for 2nd in the league in homers, 2nd in the league in extra-base hits, 2nd in the league in total bases. I love him SO MUCH.

I might have to turn my hate into love, considering those stats. Rethink your hate/love !

James McCann did not look like he hustled after that WP and give Andrew Knapp credit for hustling from 2B
Phils win that game 2-1, to move to 13-13 and SOLE possession of first place!
The rest of the division is a combined 4.5 games behind.

He does look kinda boring though, no emotions.
